Careers: Internship Program
Ten weeks that could change your future.

Because we want you to succeed in your retail career, we've created a comprehensive, step-by-step retail management training program that will equip you to become a Walgreens store manager, and from there — depending on your career goals — to move into higher levels of retail management at Walgreens.

This program, designed for college students during the summer after their junior year, prior to the start of their senior year of school, provides a wide perspective of — and hands-on experience in — the full range of operations and opportunities in retail management at Walgreens.

Interns work with experienced store managers to learn about store operations, management responsibilities, merchandising, advertising, inventory bookkeeping and human resources. By the end of your ten-week internship, you'll know just what it means to manage a Walgreens store.

Here's how your internship works:
Weeks 1 and 2: Basic Store Operations
  • Retail management orientation
  • Managing customer service
  • Introduction to retail departments

Weeks 3 and 4: Beginning Management Responsibilities
  • Managing the store facility
  • Walgreens Strategic Inventory Management System (SIMS)
  • Controlling store expenses

Weeks 5 through 10
During this portion of your internship, you will meet weekly with your mentor and select a learning project. Learning projects give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned and develop new retailing strategies we can apply in our stores. You will learn through a combination of on-the-job experience, mentor advice, computer-based training and interaction with other interns.
