Personal Emergency Response System

Caregiver Support Health Resources

A Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) is an electronic communication device that older or disabled people can use to call for help in the event of an unforeseen illness, incident or emergency. As a caregiver, you may want to consider subscribing to a PERS service to ensure the general safety of the person you are caring for. Whether your loved one experiences a fall, dizziness, a seizure, heart attack, stroke or other illness, they can simply press a button for immediate assistance. Once the button is pressed, the PERS console will automatically dial into a response center staffed around the clock with trained personnel responders, who can automatically view the user’s location and personal protocol. The response team will communicate with the user through the console and evaluate the situation. They will then check the user’s personal protocol to view the user’s medical risks and determine who should be notified among the people you have pre-selected to respond to such incidents, whether it be a neighbor, yourself, or the hospital.

Personal Emergency Response System

A Personal Emergency Response System has three components:

1. A small help button carried or worn by the user that includes a radio transmitter
2. A two-way communication console connected to the user’s land- based telephone line
3. A 24 hour response center that responds when the button is pushed
