In the United States, this term applies to chemicals or drugs whose manufacture, possession, and use are regulated by the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. A C2 drug (also known as a Schedule II substance or C-II drug) is considered to have a high potential for abuse. It is a drug that has been accepted for medical use in the U.S. or has been accepted for medical use with severe restrictions. Abuse of the drug may cause severe psychological or physical dependence. C2 drugs contain narcotics, stimulants, and central nervous system depressants.
