Common Uses: This medicine is a corticosteroid used to reduce itching, redness, and swelling associated with many skin conditions. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Before Using This Medicine: Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking prednisone (or similar medicines). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including any kind of skin infection, cuts, scrapes, or lessened blood flow to the skin; measles; tuberculosis (TB); chickenpox; shingles; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you have had a recent vaccine or if you have had a positive TB test. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
How to Use This Medicine: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. TO USE THIS MEDICINE: apply a small amount of medicine to the affected area. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands after applying this medicine, unless your hands are part of treated area. DO NOT BANDAGE OR WRAP the affected area unless directed otherwise by your doctor. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, apply it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
Cautions: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE within 2 weeks, or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use this medicine for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Do not apply this medicine over a large area without checking with your doctor. Do not use this medicine for other skin conditions at a later time. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. Do not use any other medicines or special cleansers on your skin unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. AVOID GETTING THIS MEDICINE IN YOUR EYES or on the inside of your nose or mouth. If you get it in any of these areas, rise immediately with tap water. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE on the face, underarms, or groin area unless your doctor tells you otherwise. If this medicine is applied to the diaper area, apply a very small amount and do not use tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants. SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS MAY OCCUR if too much of this medicine is absorbed through the skin. This may be more likely to occur if you use this medicine over a large area of the body. It may also be more likely if you wrap or bandage the area after you apply this medicine. The risk is greater in children. Do not use more than the prescribed dose. Contact your doctor right away if you develop unusual weight gain (especially in the face), muscle weakness, increased thirst or urination, confusion, unusual drowsiness, severe or persistent headache, or vision changes. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes medicines that contain a corticosteroid (eg, hydrocortisone). CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR before having vaccinations while using this medicine. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN CHILDREN because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. Corticosteroids medicines may affect the growth rate in CHILDREN and adolescents in some instances. Your child's growth may need to be checked regularly while using this medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk after topical use. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
Possible Side Effects: SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include dryness or itching. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience acne-like rash; burning, cracking, irritation, or peeling not present before you began using this medicine; excessive hair growth; inflamed hair follicles; inflammation around the mouth; muscle weakness; thinning, softening, or discoloration of the skin; unusual weight gain, especially in the face. AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO THIS MEDICINE IS UNLIKELY, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include muscle weakness; severe or persistent headache; symptoms of high blood sugar (eg, increased thirst, hunger, or urination; confusion; drowsiness; flushing; rapid breathing; fruit-like breath odor); unusual weight gain, especially in the face; or vision changes.
Additional Information: DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
