Common Uses:

This medicine is a male sex hormone used to treat symptoms of low testosterone in men when the body does not make any testosterone or not enough testosterone (hypogonadism). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before Using This Medicine:

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), carbamazepine, corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), insulin, macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus), oral hypoglycemics (eg, glyburide), oxyphenbutazone, or propranolol. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including heart disease, heart failure, coronary artery disease, angina (chest pain), high cholesterol levels, swelling (edema), lung disease, sleep apnea (long pauses in breathing while you sleep), diabetes, an enlarged prostate, kidney or liver disease, high blood calcium levels, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you have a history of blood clots or you are very overweight. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have breast cancer and are male; serious heart, liver, or kidney problems; or if you have known or suspected prostate cancer. USE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about taking this medicine.

How to Use This Medicine:

Follow the directions for taking this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is usually given as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. IF YOU WILL BE USING THIS MEDICINE AT HOME, a health care provider will teach you how to use it. Be sure you understand how to use this medicine. Follow the procedures you are taught when you use a dose. Contact your health care provider if you have any questions. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if it contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged. This medicine is usually handled and stored by a health care provider. If you are using this medicine at home, STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed by your pharmacist or health care provider away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children and pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions:

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. LABORATORY AND/OR MEDICAL TESTS, including liver function, blood cell counts, blood cholesterol, prostatic specific antigen, bone growth, and blood testosterone, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY AFFECT CERTAIN LAB TEST RESULTS. Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine. PEOPLE TREATED WITH MEDICINES like this one may have a raised risk for prostate cancer. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. BLOOD CLOTS have happened in patients using testosterone products such as this medicine. Tell your doctor if you have ever had a blood clot. Call your doctor right away if you have symptoms of a blood clot (eg, swelling, warmth, numbness, change of color, or pain in a leg or arm; chest pain; shortness of breath; coughing up blood). THIS MEDICINE MAY AFFECT sperm in men. This may affect being able to father a child. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine, especially an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer. This medicine has benzyl alcohol in it. Do not use it in NEWBORNS or INFANTS. It may cause serious and sometimes fatal nervous system problems and other side effects. FOR WOMEN: Using this medicine while pregnant may cause harm to the fetus. It is not known if this medicine is found in breast milk. THIS MEDICINE SHOULD NOT BE USED BY WOMEN. DIABETES PATIENTS: This medicine may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.

Possible Side Effects:

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include acne, bitter or strange taste in mouth, change in sex drive, fatigue, gum or mouth irritation, gum pain, gum tenderness or swelling, hair loss, or headache. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience breast growth or pain; change in the size or shape of the testicles; erections that happen often or that last a long time; interrupted breathing while sleeping; mood or mental changes (eg, anger, anxiety); nausea; new or worsening trouble urinating (eg, frequent urination, inability to urinate, weak stream); severe headache or dizziness; swelling of the ankles, feet, or body; symptoms of liver problems (eg, dark urine, pale stools, persistent loss of appetite, upper-right stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes); unexplained or unusual weight gain; unusual tiredness or weakness; or vomiting. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Overdose:

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Additional Information:

DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain local regulations for selecting an appropriate container and properly disposing of the container when it is full.
