Common Uses:

This medicine is an antidepressant used to treat depression. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before Using This Medicine:

WARNING: ANTIDEPRESSANTS MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF SUICIDAL THOUGHTS OR ACTIONS in children, teenagers, and young adults. However, depression and certain other mental problems may also increase the risk of suicide. Talk with the patient's doctor to be sure that the benefits of using this medicine outweigh the risks. FAMILIES AND CAREGIVERS MUST CLOSELY WATCH patients who take this medicine. It is important to keep in close contact with the patient's doctor. Tell the doctor right away if the patient has symptoms like worsened depression, suicidal thoughts, or changes in behavior. Discuss any questions or concerns with the patient's doctor. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking tryptophan. Do not take this medicine if you are taking or have taken linezolid, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine, selegiline), or St. John's wort within the past 14 days. TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you are taking a medicine that contains methylene blue. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking other prescription or nonprescription medicines (eg, used for abortion, aches and pains, allergies, blood thinning, Cushing syndrome, depression or other mental or mood problems, heart problems, hepatitis C, HIV, infections, migraine headaches, nausea or vomiting, seizures, stomach or bowel problems, swelling or fluid retention, weight loss), multivitamin products, or herbal or dietary supplements. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure if any of your medicines might interact with this medicine. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including low blood volume, low blood pressure, low blood sodium levels, dehydration, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you drink alcohol; are on a low-salt (sodium) diet; or have a history of liver problems, kidney problems, bleeding problems, or seizures. Tell your doctor if you or a family member has a history of bipolar disorder (manic-depression) or other mental or mood problems (eg, depression), suicidal thoughts or attempts, or alcohol or other substance abuse. Use of this medicine in CHILDREN or TEENAGERS is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about taking this medicine.

How to Use This Medicine:

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine has a MEDICATION GUIDE approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. TAKE THIS MEDICINE by mouth with food. WHEN STARTING THIS MEDICINE, your doctor may slowly increase your dose to avoid side effects. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP TAKING THIS MEDICINE. If you do, you may have withdrawal symptoms. These may include feeling unwell or unhappy, anxious or irritable, dizzy, confused, or sluggish. You may also have nausea, unusual skin sensations, mood swings, headache, trouble sleeping, or sweating. If you need to stop this medicine, your doctor will gradually lower your dose. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions:

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it, to any ingredient in this product, or to nefazodone. IT MAY TAKE 1 TO 4 WEEKS FOR THIS MEDICINE TO WORK. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. BE SURE TO KEEP ALL DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS while you are taking this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine. This medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, along with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while you are using this medicine. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU USE MEDICINES that may cause drowsiness (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are using this medicine; it may add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines may cause drowsiness. CHILDREN, TEENAGERS, AND YOUNG ADULTS WHO TAKE THIS MEDICINE may be at increased risk for suicidal thoughts or actions. Watch all patients who take this medicine closely. Contact the doctor at once if new, worsened, or sudden symptoms such as depressed mood; anxious, restless, or irritable behavior; panic attacks; or any unusual change in mood or behavior occur. Contact the doctor right away if any signs of suicidal thoughts or actions occur. NEUROLEPTIC MALIGNANT SYNDROME (NMS) is a possibly fatal syndrome that can be caused by this medicine. Symptoms may include fever; stiff muscles; confusion; abnormal thinking; fast or irregular heartbeat; and sweating. Contact your doctor at once if you have any of these symptoms. SEROTONIN SYNDROME is a possibly fatal syndrome that can be caused by this medicine. Your risk may be greater if you take this medicine with certain other medicines (eg, "triptans," monoamine oxidase inhibitors / MAOIs). Symptoms may include agitation; confusion; hallucinations; coma; fever; fast or irregular heartbeat; tremor; excessive sweating; and nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Contact your doctor at once if you have any of these symptoms. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of this medicine, especially low blood sodium levels. FOR WOMEN: THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE HARM TO THE FETUS if taken during the third trimester of pregnancy. IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discussthe risks to your baby.

Possible Side Effects:

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include decreased sexual desire or ability, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, trouble sleeping, or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience behavior changes; black, tarry, or bloody stools; bloody or dark urine; blurred vision; decreased coordination; fainting; hallucinations; irregular heartbeat; new or worsening agitation, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, aggressiveness, impulsiveness, irritability, hostility, exaggerated feeling or well-being, restlessness, trouble sleeping, or inability to sit still; seizures; severe or persistent dizziness; suicidal thoughts or actions; symptoms of low blood sodium levels (eg, confusion, severe or persistent headache, trouble concentrating, memory problems, weakness, unsteadiness, sluggishness); tremor; unusual bruising or bleeding; or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Overdose:

IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include agitation; confusion; disorientation; excessive sweating; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever; hallucinations; loss of consciousness or coma; nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; restlessness; tiredness or weakness; tremor.

DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. IF YOU WILL BE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
