Common Uses: This medicine is a local anesthetic used to numb the skin to pain from injections and other medical procedures.

Before Using This Medicine: Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking anti-arrhythmic medicines (such as amiodaraone, bretylium, sotalol, tocainide, mexiletine, or dofetilide). Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including metabolism problems (such as glucose-6-phosphate enzyme deficiency), liver problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of methemoglobinemia. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IN CHILDREN under 1 month old is not recommended. Please talk with your doctor about risks and benefits before using this medicine on your child.

How to Use This Medicine: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. To apply this medicine, wash and completely dry the chosen area. Apply this medicine in a thick layer at the site of the procedure. Do not rub this medicine into the skin. This medicine should only be used on normal, unbroken skin. Cover the cream as instructed by your doctor. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light.

Cautions: DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use this medicine for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. AVOID GETTING THIS MEDICINE IN YOUR EYES or on the inside of your nose or mouth. If you get this medicine in your eyes, rinse them with plenty of water. THIS MEDICINE BLOCKS PAIN AND FEELING in the skin. Be careful not to injure the treated skin by scratching, rubbing, or coming in contact with extreme cold or heat. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not use any more of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. FOR WOMEN: THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible Side Effects: SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include skin paleness, loss of feeling, itching, redness, or swelling at the treated site. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
