Common Uses:

This medicine is a benzodiazepine used to relieve anxiety and cause drowsiness before certain medical procedures. It is also used to treat seizures. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before Using This Medicine:

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking aminophylline, barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), clozapine, divalproex, haloperidol, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (eg, phenelzine) or other medicines for depression (eg, sertraline), narcotic pain medicines (eg, codeine, morphine), phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine), probenecid, scopolamine, theophylline, or valproate / valproic acid. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking medicine for seizures. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including a history of drug abuse or dependence, lung or breathing problems (eg, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease / COPD), muscle weakness or fatigue, glaucoma, liver problems, blood disorders, mental or mood problems (eg, depression, suicidal thoughts or actions), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, sleep apnea, or certain mental or mood problems (eg, depressive neurosis, psychosis). Use of this medicine in children under age 18 is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

How to Use This Medicine:

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or a clinic. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed by the prescription label. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, call your doctor to find out what to do.


DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it, to other benzodiazepines (eg, alprazolam), or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take this medicine for longer than prescribed. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may be habit-forming. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP taking this medicine without your doctor's approval. You may have a greater risk of signs of withdrawal. If you need to stop this drug, you may need to slowly stop it as ordered by your doctor. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS OR DIZZINESS. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. Avoid drinking alcohol. You may need to do these things for at least 24 hours after using this medicine. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU USE MEDICINES that may cause drowsiness (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are using this medicine; it may add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines may cause drowsiness. DO NOT TRY TO GET OUT OF BED without help for at least 8 hours after you use this medicine. You may fall and hurt yourself. LABORATORY AND/OR MEDICAL TESTS may be performed if you are taking this medicine for a long time. Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are taking this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE HARM to the human fetus if you take it while you are pregnant. IF YOU THINK YOU MAY BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using this medicine while you are pregnant. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS FOUND in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Possible Side Effects:

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, irritation at the injection site, tiredness, or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience change in balance; change in personality, mood, or behavior (eg, depression); confusion; dark urine; fainting; hallucinations; memory problems or loss; muscle weakness; severe or persistent dizziness or drowsiness; unusual tiredness or weakness; vision changes; or yellow skin or eyes. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE severe and sometimes fatal breathing problems Call your doctor right away if you have slow, shallow, or trouble breathing. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Additional Information:

DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain local regulations for selecting an appropriate container and properly disposing of the container when it is full.
