Common Uses:

This medicine is a nitroimidazole anti-infective used in the vagina to treat certain types of infection.

Before Using This Medicine:

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking any liquid medicine containing alcohol. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking disulfiram or warfarin. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

How to Use This Medicine:

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE COMES WITH A PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. TO PREVENT REINFECTION, wash and dry the applicator after each use. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue using this medicine for the full course of treatment, even if your symptoms are relieved in a few days. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.


CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR if your condition worsens or if it does not improve within a few days. Also, check with your doctor if you notice genital itching or burning after a few days of treatment. USE A SANITARY NAPKIN rather than a tampon to prevent staining of clothes and bed linens. DO NOT HAVE VAGINAL SEX during treatment to prevent reinfection. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while using this medicine and for at least 3 days after the last dose. FOR WOMEN: THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist first to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible Side Effects:

SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include genital itching or burning; lower abdominal pain or cramps; or a metallic or bad taste. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.


If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
