Common Uses: This medicine is a corticosteroid used to reduce itching, redness, and swelling associated with many skin conditions. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Before Using This Medicine: Some medicine or medical conditions may interact with this medicine INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking other medicines containing steroids (eg, prednisone). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including any kind of skin infection, cuts, scrapes, thinning, or lessened blood flow to your skin; measles; tuberculosis (TB); chickenpox; shingles; adrenal gland problems; skin swelling or redness on the nose or face (rosacea); a scaly or bumpy rash around your mouth (perioral dermatitis); allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you will be having surgery, if you have had a recent vaccination, or if you have had a positive TB test. Use of this medicine in children under age 12 is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about taking this medicine.
How to Use This Medicine: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. AN ADDITIONAL PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET is available with this medicine. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this information. TO USE THIS MEDICINE: apply a small amount of medicine to the affected area. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands after applying this medicine, unless your hands are part of treated area. DO NOT BANDAGE OR WRAP the affected area unless directed otherwise by your doctor. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, apply it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT apply 2 doses at once.
Cautions: DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine. BEFORE YOU USE THIS MEDICINE, tell your doctor if you have had a skin irritation or any allergic reaction caused by a corticosteroid medicine (eg, prednisone). DO NOT APPLY MORE OF THIS MEDICINE THAT RECOMMENDED or apply more often than prescribed without checking with your doctor. IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT GET BETTER WITHIN 2 WEEKS or if they get worse, check with your doctor. This medicine should not be used for longer then 2 weeks. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine. SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS may occur if too much of this medicine is absorbed through the skin. This may be more likely to occur if you use this medicine over a large area of the body. It may also be more likely if you wrap or bandage the area after you apply the medicine. The risk is greater in children. Do not use more than the prescribed dose. Contact your doctor right away if you develop unusual weight gain (especially in the face), muscle weakness, increased thirst or urination, confusion, unusual drowsiness, severe or persistent headache, anxiety, depression, irritability, or vision changes. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. DO NOT use this medicine for other skin conditions at a later time. THIS MEDICINE IS FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. Do NOT get this medicine in your eyes, nose, vagina, or mouth. If you get it in any of these areas, rinse immediately with cool water. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE AROUND THE MOUTH or on the face, groin, or armpit. Do NOT use it to treat rosacea or perioral dermatitis. TELL YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE A CUT, insect bite, or infection that heals very slowly or does not heal. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any medicines that contain corticosteroids. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE HAVING IMMUNIZATIONS (VACCINATIONS) while you are using this medicine. CORTICOSTEROID MEDICINES MAY AFFECT growth rate in children and teenagers in some instances. They may need regular growth checks while they use this medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while using this medicine. DIABETES PATIENTS: This medicine may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask you doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
Possible Side Effects: SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include burning, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness at the treatment site; or headache. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience an acne-like rash; dizziness; excessive hair growth; fainting; inflamed hair follicles; inflammation around the mouth; irritation, burning, redness, or swelling not present before using this medicine; loss of appetite; nausea or vomiting; thinning, softening, or discoloration of the skin; unexplained weight loss; or unusual tiredness or weakness. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing or swallowing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. Overdose: IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include increased thirst or urination; muscle weakness; or unusual weight gain, especially in the face.
Additional Information: If your symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed.
