Common Uses:

This medicine is an antineoplastic used to treat certain types of cancer.

Before Using This Medicine:

WARNING: If vinblastine accidentally leaks into surrounding tissue, the skin and/or muscle may be severely damaged. Notify your doctor immediately if you feel pain or irritation at the injection site. Fatalities have occurred when vinblastine was injected into the spine. This drug is for intravenous (IV) use only. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking cyclosporine, dalfopristin, digoxin, erythromycin, quinupristin, or medicine for seizures. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

How to Use This Medicine:

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is administered as an injection at your doctor's office or clinic. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. DRINKING EXTRA FLUIDS while you are taking this medicine is recommended. Check with your doctor or nurse for instructions. DO NOT USE this medicine if it contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged. IF YOU GET this medicine on your skin, rinse the area well with soap and water. If you get it in your eye, nose, or mouth, flush the area well with water. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed on the prescription label. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS a dose of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately.

Cautions:

KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are being treated with this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. THIS MEDICINE LOWERS YOUR RESISTANCE to infection. To prevent infection, avoid contact with people who have colds or other infections. Do not touch your eyes or the inside of your nose unless you have thoroughly washed your hands first. THIS MEDICINE MAY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BLOOD CELLS NEEDED FOR CLOTTING. To prevent bleeding, avoid situations where bruising or injury may occur. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE HAVING IMMUNIZATIONS (VACCINATIONS) while you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS DRUG IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Possible Side Effects:

SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include constipation, hair loss, jaw pain, bone pain, or pain in the area of the tumor. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site; unusual bruising or bleeding; sores on the mouth or lips; fever or chills; cough or sore throat; or numbness or tingling of your fingers or toes. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. Overdose:

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include seizures.
