Common Uses:

This medicine is a corticosteroid used to treat swelling in a number of different disorders such as arthritis, bursitis, or tendonitis. It may also be used to treat asthma, allergic reactions, skin problems, chronic pain, and other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before Using This Medicine:

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking aminoglutethimide, birth control pills, barbiturates, rifampin, or medicine for seizures. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

How to Use This Medicine:

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or a clinic. This medicine is sometimes used at home as an injection. If you are using this medicine at home, a health care professional will provide detailed instructions for its appropriate use. Ask any questions that you may have about this medicine or giving injections. YOUR DOCTOR MAY CHANGE YOUR PRESCRIPTION to medicine you take by mouth. If this occurs, be sure that you understand the dosing schedule and follow it exactly. DO NOT STOP USING THIS MEDICINE without first checking with your doctor. Serious side effects may occur if you suddenly stop using this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE as directed on the prescription label. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, contact your doctor right away.

Cautions:

DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. LABORATORY AND/OR MEDICAL TESTS may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are using this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. CORTICOSTEROIDS MAY LOWER YOUR ABILITY TO FIGHT INFECTION or may cause infections to be more severe. The risk may be greater if you take them for a long time. Avoid contact with people who have infections such as colds, chickenpox, measles, or tuberculosis (TB). Tell your doctor right away if you have contact with anyone who has these infections. Tell your doctor if you develop symptoms such as fever, sore throat, rash, or chills. Check with your doctor if you have questions about your risk of infection. IF YOU USE THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, your body may not produce enough natural steroids for up to several months after you stop using it. Severe symptoms may occur if you experience injury, surgery, infection, or loss of blood electrolytes. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these events. You may need to begin taking additional corticosteroids. SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS HAVE HAPPENED when corticosteroids, including this medicine, have been given into the spine (epidural). These include paralysis, blindness, stroke, and sometimes death. Safety and effectiveness of corticosteroids given into the spine have not been confirmed. Corticosteroids are not approved for this use. Discuss any questions and concerns with your doctor. IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD chickenpox, shingles, or measles, avoid contact with anyone who does. If you do have contact with anyone who has chickenpox or measles, contact your doctor right away. THIS MEDICINE MAY HAVE BENZYL ALCOHOL IN IT. DO NOT USE IT IN NEWBORNS OR INFANTS. It may cause serious and sometimes fatal nervous system problems and other side effects. CORTICOSTEROID MEDICINES MAY AFFECT growth rate in children and adolescents in some instances. Your child's growth may need to be checked regularly while using this medicine. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE HAVING ANY IMMUNIZATIONS (VACCINATIONS) while you are using this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN CHILDREN; they may be more sensitive to its effects. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby. DIABETES PATIENTS:This medicine may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.

Possible Side Effects:

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include acne, nausea, vomiting, changes in appetite, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, headache, restlessness, sweating, or trouble sleeping. If they continue or are bothersome check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience fever or chills; pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site; sore throat; slow wound healing; vision changes; mood or mental changes; personality changes; or numbness or tingling in the hands of feet. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience depression; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; muscle or joint pain or weakness; joint stiffness; seizures; or unusual exhaustion. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience swelling of your hands, legs, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing; shortness of breath; or hoarseness. An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Overdose:

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain local regulations for selecting an appropriate container and properly disposing of the container when it is full.
