Common Uses:This medicine is a decongestant, antihistamine, and cough suppressant combination. This medicine is used for relieving symptoms of sinus congestion, runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose or throat, itchy or watery eyes, and cough due to colds, upper respiratory tract infections, or allergies. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Before Using This Medicine:Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking sodium oxybate (GHB) or droxidopa, or if you have taken furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine) within the last 14 days. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking abiraterone, beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), bromocriptine, catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitors (eg, tolcapone), digoxin, guanadrel, guanethidine, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), linezolid, mecamylamine, methyldopa, reserpine, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, citalopram, fluoxetine), or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including a history of adrenal gland problems (eg, adrenal gland tumor); heart problems (eg, fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; heart disease); high or low blood pressure; low blood volume; diabetes; blood vessel problems; stroke; glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye; thyroid problems; trouble sleeping; asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other lung or breathing problems (eg, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, sleep apnea); chronic cough; stomach or bowel ulcers; a blockage of your stomach, bladder, or bowel; kidney problems; trouble urinating; an enlarged prostate or other prostate problems; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if your cough produces large amounts of mucus. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are unable to urinate or are having an asthma attack. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have severe heart problems, severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe heart blood vessel disease, or rapid heartbeat. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
How to Use This Medicine:Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. THIS MEDICINE MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. USE THE DROPPER THAT COMES WITH THIS MEDICINE to measure your dose. Ask your pharmacist for help if you are unsure of how to measure your dose. STORE THIS MEDICINE between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Cautions:DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take this medicine for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY INTERFERE WITH SKIN ALLERGY TESTS. If you are scheduled for a skin test, talk to your doctor. You may need to stop taking this medicine for a few days before the tests. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS, dizziness, or blurred vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while you are using this medicine. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR before you use medicines that may cause drowsiness (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are using this medicine; it may add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines may cause drowsiness. Do NOT use this medicine for a cough with a lot of mucus. Do NOT use it for a long-term cough (eg, caused by asthma, emphysema, smoking). However, you may use it for these conditions if your doctor tells you to. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to this medicine. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE WITHIN 5 TO 7 DAYS; if they go away and come back; if they become worse; if they are accompanied by fever, rash, or persistent headache; or if new symptoms occur, check with your doctor. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINES, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any medicines containing other decongestants, antihistamines, or cough suppressants. Do NOT take diet or appetite control medicines while you are taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY AND IN CHILDREN because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. DIFFERENT BRANDS OF THIS MEDICINE may have different dosing instructions for CHILDREN. They may also be indicated for different age ranges of children. Follow the dosing instructions on the package labeling. If your doctor has given you instructions, follow those. If you are unsure of the dose to give a child or if you are unsure if this medicine is appropriate for your child, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor thebenefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.
Possible Side Effects:SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include anxiety; constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth, nose, or throat; excitability; headache; loss of appetite; nausea; trouble sleeping; upset stomach; vomiting; or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience difficulty urinating or inability to urinate; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; hallucinations; loss of coordination; mental or mood changes (eg, depression, nervousness); seizures; severe or persistent dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, or headache; severe dryness of mouth, nose, or throat; severe or persistent trouble sleeping; shortness of breath; tremor; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness or weakness; or vision problems (eg, double vision, severe or persistent blurred vision). AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. Overdose:IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include blurred vision; confusion; flushing; hallucinations; mental or mood changes; muscle spasms; seizures; severe dizziness, lightheadedness, or headache; severe drowsiness; trouble breathing; unusually fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; or vomiting.
