Calendula

Calendula, also known as pot marigold, is grown both for its flowers and for its herbal properties. It is widely used as an astringent and added to many different products, particularly cosmetics and creams. Walgreens has several products that have been enhanced with the addition of calendula.

Calendula extract benefits

Since Calendula is an astringent, calendula can be used to soothe skin irritation caused by insect bites, rashes or mild abrasions. Its astringent qualities also make calendula-enriched products a great choice for acne sufferers. Calendula extracts are also currently being studied to determine their antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Calendula is added to everything from sunscreens to toothpaste. Calendula is sometimes added to deodorants, particularly the all-natural varieties, to prevent irritation to delicate skin. Deodorants made with calendula can be particularly beneficial to those who shave the armpit area. When using a sunscreen with calendula, you can soothe and protect your skin from UV rays at the same time.

Calendula creams and lotions

Since calendula is so beneficial to the skin, it is no surprise that it appears in many skin creams. It is often combined with honey or herbs to create a formula that seals in moisture and feels great on your skin. Calendula also has a distinctive scent that many find quite relaxing. Many people use a night cream with calendula extract as much for the relaxation it provides as for its moisturizing properties. You can find a wide array of calendula products at Walgreens.com.
