The heart of our business is pharmacy. It’s been that way for more than 100 years. When it comes to community outreach, our efforts revolve around access to health services and providing education.
- AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour has provided more than 135,500 free screenings since April 2009 around the country and in Puerto Rico.
- Wellness Tour crew members handed out seasonal flu shot vouchers to unemployed individuals around the country as part of Walgreens commitment to providing affordable health care options.
- For the second year in a row, Walgreens donated more than $1 million to accredited colleges of pharmacy across the country in an effort to support diversity initiatives.
- In fiscal year 2009, we gave more than $68 million in charitable donations to local charities and national organizations including the American Cancer Society, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Heart Association and United Way.
- We worked with the nation’s largest network of food banks to provide $22.5 million worth of product in fiscal 2009.
- Nearly 3,700 outdoor electronic signs for Walgreens stores signal severe weather alerts and missing children alerts as they happen.
