So, I have been using Sun-In in my hair for over 3 years. My hair looked bleach blond..it was beautiful. It went with my skin tone and everything. I forgot what I looked like with my natural hair color, so i got pictures out, and decided to dye my hair back to its natural hair color. Well, once a professional dyed it...i hated it. It was such a big change. I literally cried over my hair!! Every time I looked in the mirror I looked so different. I wanted my beautiful bleach blond hair back. I was gonna just wait until the dye washed out..but a professional hair stylist said the dye might stain my hair..so i was so ticked off..and scared. I did research online and I bought color oops. I was scared to try it because the reviews said it smelled horrible and sometimes it didn't turn back to the hair color before. I used color oops and it didn't smell as bad as i thought it would smell at all. It turned my hair back to its blond!!! Its still a tad darker than the bleach blond..but its still bright blond and i LOVE IT! i am so happy to be back to normal looking. My hair isnt damaged at ALL ..its silky smooth.

I am greatly disappointed after reading so many great reviews on this product. I did a swatch test before to make sure it didn't damage my hair and find out how long to leave it on and to see how much of the color it would take out. However, after applying it to the rest of my hair it didn't take out any of the color and it made it horribly dry and brittle (even after deep-conditioning it). I am unsure of what the difference in use was because I did the same for both. I would not use it again (if the case were I needed a second application) because of all the damage it caused to my hair.

I went to a salon to get my hair dyed to dark brown. I had medium brown hair with faded highlights before. After she was done my hair turned out JET BLACK. I was rather shocked and dissappointed!! She told me it would fade after a few washes. After 1-2 washes, I noticed little fading. I was desperate and went out to buy Color Oops after reading all the reviews here and from a friend. I did a strand test and it changed colors in 10 mins so I began to put it all over my head. After about 18-20 mins I saw a really light brassy brown color. The black was GONE!!! =)
I was really happy...now my hair looks auburn/orangey/reddish brown, which is not so bad looking! I'm gonna tone it after a week or so. BUY this product if you HATE how gothic your hair looks and want to go back to a lighter shade of brown. Highly recommend this! Not damaging at all, just use conditioner! Follow directions carefully too!

I got my hair colored to cover some natural lightening by the sun-I have medium to dark brown hair-well i went to my stylist and she left the color on too long and my hair came out jet black! I was horrified-I felt like Morticia from the Adams family! I was mad so I didnt go back to the stylist who messed it up-so I figured I would just be stuck with it-well I did some searching on the internet and found color oops-i read all the reviews and I purchased it the next day and did the strand test-looked good so I did it and my hair came out great! It is brown again and a very pretty brown-much what I was wanting it to look like when I went to the hairdresser. I think it is the best color I have ever had on my hair actually! The product is easy to use and the smell wasnt as bad as people posted-just be sure to throw it out in an outside trash can when done:) Very pleased with this product-would recommend!

I decided to go darker for the fall and winter season. I chose a medium brown. I colored my hair last night and i was horrified. It was jet black with purple highlights. This morning, I called Clairol and was told that there is no way of lightening it at home and that I needed to go to a salon. Well, I started searching the web and came across this product. I went to Rite Aid after reading almost all of the reviews. I came home and did a patch test. I left it on for the full 20 mins that it tells you to. It removed all the black but left it a little lighter than I wanted. I decided to go ahead and do all of my hair. I just kept checking and when I noticed it was the color i wanted, I began the rinse process. It is a wonderful product. I am back to the color I was last night and I'm not so sure that I want to take the chance and go darker. I highly reccommend you use Color Oops.

I started with medium brown hair with golden and reddish highlights. I wanted to go dark brown for the winter and used Natural Insticts Medium brown. It was fine at first but as the weeks went by it started to look dull and boring and flat. I just thought it looked sorta cheap. I used Color Oops after about 2 weeks. My hair is totally back to normal, my hightlights and everything. Didn't seem too harsh, my hair feels pretty good. Pretty miraculous.

I dye my hair pretty regularly, but it seems like my hair always fades to a redish brown color. I decided (since the weather was getting cooler) to go for a deeper brown on my WAIST LENGTH hair. Well, it turned Jet Black!!! It was horrifying. I tried the dish soap, head and shoulders, and even laundry detergent tricks to try to fade it - to no avail. I stopped at a hair salon yesterday to ask about corrective color. The stylist looked at me and said "I can probably do something, but it's going to be expensive...at least $200 depending on how much time it takes". $200 for a [$] mistake!! I made the appointment, but started to do some more research when I got home. I found Color Oops an read over 100 reviews. I was so nervous, I kept thinking that I was going to have to cut my hair off. Well I picked up two boxes of Color Oops and this stuff is a MIRACLE WORKER!!! Left it on for 12 minutes and ALL the black was gone - and I saved [$]! Yeah, it smells a little bad but I could care less. This stuff is great!

Looked like a cheap ugly halloween witches wig. I rushed to the store and bought color oops. It corrected my hair back to its original color. Thank God!!!!

I have colored my hair for years, you name the color, I've done it once. I have had my hair dine both professionally and I have done it myself when funds were tight. Well, my natural color is a light golden brown. I had been dying it a shade or so darker, but I decided I wanted to go for a change and dye it a deep, rich BROWN - - instead, it came out BLACK!!! I was mortified! I had NEVER had this happen and didn't know what to do next! SO, I searched around online for some help. I shampooed over and over again to no avail, and I dried it and thought to myself, "maybe this isn't so bad.... maybe you an make this work!" But NO! It was BAD!!! SO then I came upon this page and thought, "Here we go!" SO I ran out to my local Walgreens and picked it up and IT WORKED GREAT!!!! It took all the black right out and my hair turned out just fine! It is still a shade or so darker than my natural color now with some auburn, but I was SO PLEASED!!!! USE THIS, IT WORKS!!!

I was really nervous about trying this product, (the whole "unknown" factor!) but I'm so glad I did. I colored my hair about a month ago, thinking I wanted a shade darker and it ended up looking more gothic than dark and sexy. I lived with it for a while and considered going to my stylist for color correction. But it can be such an expensive process that I did some research on home remedies and found Color Oops. The color I ended up with was a just slightly brassy auburn, but my hair usually does that anyway. My recommendations are to definitely do the strand test and then throw everything out outside when you're done, because it will stink up your bathroom if you leave it in the trash! :) Good luck!

I purchased a total of four boxes of this product and it did not work. I spent [$] for nothing. I needed four boxes because of the thickness for my hair it takes two boxes and one time. When I spoke to the company yesterday they told me to purchase two more boxes because it may take more then once to remove the color. It didn't work. I contacted the company for a refund but I never heard anything back. I tried to go from black to my natural color which is light brown. This product sucks and do not recommend you use it.

I tried this out tonight to get rid of black dye. I colored my hair black about a month ago. I've been trying to lighten it ever since and I've been unsuccessful twice now. So I read about this here and then I went out to buy it. I used it but chose to skip the color strand test figuring that I would still be coloring to get the color I wanted anyway. So even if I left it on for a bit longer, it wouldn't matter. Well I left it on the entire 20 minutes and then I rinsed it out and my hair ended up the same color that I wanted. The only downside was that I now have to go and return the hair color I bought since I won't be using it. This product is amazing. I definitely recommend it!

I accidentally used a permanent color that I thought would turn out neutral. I naturally have a lot of red in my hair. The cool shade I chose, I thought, would simply be a little cooler than the usual shade I have used in the past. My hair actually looked blue. Used Oops, left it in only about ten minutes, and my hair was back to normal. The smell is not that bad, no worse than going into any salon. It's a good product that does what it says. And yes, it is a little runny. I would have rated it a five if they could make it a little creamier or thicker.

I had dyed my hair with natural instincts from dirty blonde to a light ash brown. i really liked it at first but it seemed to fade after about a week so i decided to go darker. i picked a dark brown in the Nice 'n easy brand and it turned my hair JET black! i didnt want to go out in public and i wanted NO ONE to see it - it was that bad. i looked on the internet for what to do and i found Color oops. i read tons of the reviews and decided to give it a shot... i really didnt think my hair could get any worse. i did a strand test for 10 minutes then 20 minutes, and i found out that the 10 minutes was good for my hair. MAKE SURE you do this step because it could really make or break your results!! after i was done, my hair was a really pretty natural looking brown, and i am in love with it!! haha be careful with your roots though and apply it there last. The reason i gave this 4 stars was because of the smell. it's like a combo of oranges and rotten eggs. it lingered in my hair and my dad and sister were both kind of grossed out by it.. but the results were worth the few hours of the smell. i DEFINITELY recommend this for anyone with a haircolor crises. hope this helped :)

A month ago my hairstylist told me my colored hair was way to brassy so I immediately went to Sally Hansen's and bought some level 4 brown/auburn hair dye . The result was a goth-like, uneven, completely unprofessional hair color that was darker in areas that were more porous. I used a 20 volume peroxide/shampoo rinse 3 times which only lightened it slightly and seriously damaged any shine I had. I was ready to strip my hair with strong bleach until I found this awesome product. I applied Color Oops (get 2 boxes if you have hair longer than below the shoulders or if you have thick hair) for 20 minutes (no mess at all) and rinsed. Within 4 or 5 minutes my hair was already 2 shades lighter and after 15 minutes of rinsing and shampooing I had my old lighter "brassy"hair color back which I was elated to see.I had no burning, the smell was manageable, and there was not a single bit of cleanup to do. I cannot believe that hairstylists charge [$] for hair correction when this is only [$] (Shame on them). I would recommend this to anyone,.Note: This only removes dye that is darker than your natural color, it does not reverse the effects of lightening.Good Luck!

Let me preface this review with the fact that I have had my hair colored professionally for the last five years. But I thought that I would cover my dark roots, and even out my hair color with a Name Brand product that I had not used before. Big Mistake! After coloring, I washed my hair about three times and the color would not come out. It looked like I had placed black shoe polish on my hair.
I went on-line and saw this product was at Walgreens. I bought it and put it in my hair.
Surprise. I am very happy with the results. I would recommend this product to anyone who has made the same hair color mistake.

I am so glad I did one first. I cut a small bunch of hair strands, put the solution on, and waited 20 minutes. Seems like nothing happened. But after I rinsed and blow-dried the strand, I saw that it was WAY too light. I tested again for 10 minutes... and then 7 minutes. Still too light. Four minutes seemed to work, believe it or not. I applied the liquid quickly, combed evenly through hair, rinsed a bunch, washed it twice....and lo and behold, the perfect golden brown hair! Thank you Color Oops for saving me from my Elvira-colored hair, and making it safe to go out in public again.

I have dark brown hair and decided that it would be a good idea to dye my hair black (think again....) Immediately after dying, I knew it was a mistake. I tried the Purell shampoo trick...a lot of dye came out, but my hair was still horrifically jet black. After reading the reviews, i decided to try this product. The best advice I can give is to do the strand test prior. it does involve cutting a small amount of hair off (about an inch of 20-30 strands) but I was able to test 5 mins, 10 mins, etc to see the color effect. I decided on 8 minutes and my hair is now just a slightly darker brown than I naturally have. I probably could have kept the product in longer, but it's so gentle that I can do it again in a few days if I dislike the color. I think the brassy-redness comes from leaving the product on too long. And yes, the smell is bad, but completely worth it for the results.

I was skeptical about color oops, but i read hundreds of reviews and most were good so I thought that anything would look better than my Black hair disaster! My friend died my hair to what was supposed to be chocolate brown- and it came out jet black! I hated it and went to the salon to get highlights, and my hairdresser had to use bleach to hi-light because she said reg lightener wouldnt take out died black color. So it looked better but the bleach made my hair frizzy, I had to deep condition every day to get it to look healthier. That was almost three months ago. So I start hating it even more over the few months and decided to get some reddish brown home color and try and lighten it up a couple of days ago. No go! That just made me look darker because it darkened the highlights and didnt budge the black color! After all of that, I got the xtra strength color oops and left it on for about 10 mins as indicated by my strand test. I did the test beforehand and left it on for 10 mins, rinsed and dryed it to see what the color looked like... it was pretty, but i put more on it and left it for another 10 mins just to see what it looked like after that long of time. It was uneven and orangy after the full 20 mins, so i decided just to leave it on my full head of hair for 10 mins. I worked my way up the ends and then onto my roots because the roots will lose color faster. Definately do a strand test!!!! My hair is now a beautiful chocolaty auburn color and i love it! I didnt even redye it after the color oops. It actually looks like my natural color! I am very pleased and reccomend this product to anyone with a bad hair day:) JUST DO THE STRAND TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so my natural colour is dark brown (I am of hispanic asian mix) and I have been dying my hair blue black for years and occasionally highlighting it, I wanted my natural hair colour back so almost a year ago I went to the salon and they refused to touch my hair because they said it was hard to correct considering I had dark hair dyed dark and streaked somewhat. So I did what they advised and let it fade naturally using clarifying shampoo and washing my hair regularly.
Anyways now its been almost a year and half my hair is brownish and the rest of it at the bottom half is black. I bought COLOUR oops hoping to get it out. Two nights ago I tried it, It smelled ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING LIKE ROTTEN EGGS AND FARTS (sulphur) I gagged a few times and felt physically ill because of the smell, I felt like puking. To make matters worse it was very runny and be CAREFUL after shaking when u open it because gas builds up inside and if u open it too close to your face, u cud probably go blind as it bursts with the stuff upon opening. So I applied it to my hair, I have thick long hair so I used 2 boxes. Soooooooooo runny like water so its dripping everywhere leaving you in a smelly mess and having to clean it up after because the stench is so putrid and vile a few drops left behind leaves a pretty big smell. I cleaned up with clorox wipes and it did the job well.

I waited 20 min and shampood my hair 3 times in the shower and my old highlights came right through but I didnt see much black come out, maybe slightly... perhaps it would have been more successful if I left it in longer, but I couldnt bare the smell any longer. Well it does work or my highlights would have never come through. I really never want to do this again just because of the smell, though I would recommend it.

This product worked great! My hair is naturally medium brown. A few months ago I died my hair light brown. After noticing that my medium brown roots were starting to grow in, I decided to use the same box color I've always used when I wanted my hair a medium/dark brown (I dye my hair a lot). However this time, maybe because my hair is too porous, it came out a flat jet black. I decided to use this product for the first time, knowing that even if it didn't totally fix my hair and I'd still have to redye it, I'd be happy with it (anything would look better than black). Using it was easy.. except the smell. After drying my hair it was even better than I was expecting. It was perfectly even and blended throughout and my hair was shiny. Even my roots were the same color as the rest of my hair! It was awesome. If you are worried about the color that it will come out because you've dyed your hair a lot recently, just try it. It worked really well for me. Whoever came up with this is a genius!!

AMAZING! I used another haircolor stripper before and it didn't work and I ended up going to a salon and spending a lot of money to fix my hair. I tried Color Oops when I accidentally dyed my hair black when I was going for medium brown.I went from; [...] just a couple of hours. Well worth it!

Color Oops works fantastically! I was skeptical and discovered it by accident after deciding I wanted to get the demi-permanent black dye I have worn in my hair for nearly 6 months. I didn't want to damage it with bleach or spend mucho dollars at a salon. My natural hair color is a medium auburn and I used 4 boxes since my hair is waist length, super thick, and wavy. Color Oops not only took the black out, but there was no need to add any color afterwards since it turned a very pretty shade of auburn.Sure, it stunk up to high heaven, but no worse than a perm solution scent. It was easy to use, although a little drippy. So to all you naysayers, I say go for it! Just follow the instructions carefully and you should have no problems. Also, I find a few of the negative alarmist comments seem to come from hairdressers who naturally don't want to lose any business for their [$] damaging bleach process.Color Oops is a hair color miracle in my opinion!

Don't let the instructions intimidate you at first because they are in small print. THIS STUFF WORKS! It got rid of a dark red hair color. It gave me back my strawberry blondish/brown hair. Thank God. That red looked like a dark mop on my head. I am so glad of products like this for those of us that do our hair ourselves.

The other day my friend and I wanted to dye our hair. She's a brunette, and I'm a blonde. Well, in the midst of our hair dying adventures, I somehow managed to pick up her bottle of dark brown hair dye and put it into my hair.
After realizing this mistake, it was too late to go back, so, I just put more of the dark in to even out the color, and i ended up with this dark ashy brown, grey, green color. I panicked. Then, I stumbled upon Color Oops at Walgreens, I bought it, and it worked AMAZINGLY!!!!
(but, really the sooner you use it the better!)Anyways,my hair went back to its previously dyed blonde color. Thank God for Color Oops. And, a note, it really doesnt smell as awful as everyone says it does. But, I definatley would recommend this product. It simply works wonders.

I had dyed my hair jet black for a convention production, and it was far too severe for my daily life. I have very pale skin and freckles, so black hair was *not* for me. Unfortunately, I had used a permanent hair color. Oops! I found this product through a desperate search for color strippers, and went out and bought it the same day. My hair is now not exactly the color it was before the black, but it's rich, honey-brown, and my natural red highlights are very prominent!! It took all the black out!! I was truly amazed.

After many years of fighting the grey, I decided to let it go. I once had dark brown hair. I had colored my long hair dark brown for years to hide the grey. I finally lightened the top layers of my hair and highlighted it so I would not have to color it as often. I finally decided to stop with color and highlights completely. I used Color Oops to get rid of the line between the grey and my last color/hightlight job. It worked beautifully. The white/grey now blends in with the pale ash blond that was left after the color removal. I used shampoo for white/silver hair to tone down the yellowish tones. I still have some darker hair underneath but I can live with that until it grows out. I used the product 3 times within a week to get the results I wanted. I conditioned it well after each use and my hair seems no more damaged than it was before ( from the highlighting). Great product.

My natural hair color is medium-brown with very little gray. The past few years I have colored it "medium-golden brown" and "reddish-mahogany brown. After this summer of natural sun fade, I decided to go back to my true medium-brown color. So, I bought a regular medium-brown color. My hair turned out BLACK, BLACK, BLACK last night. I couldn't go to work this morning. Truly horrified, I purchased the "Extra Conditioning" Oops. It was easy to use. It didn't seem to smell as bad as I had read. It came with little plastic gloves in a pouch. I put it on (took about 5 min), and wrapped my head in a plastic grocery bag. 10 min later, I took a peek in the mirror. My hair was light-orange! I panicked and jumped right in the shower. I shampooed and rinsed for 5 min. I shampooed again, and rinsed for 5 min. I combed through a leave-in conditioner and blow dryed my hair. The results were FANTASTIC. Although my hair is lighter than medium-brown, it is a gorgeous color. More a chestnut-brown with gold highlights. I really like it! It feels healthy and looks it too. I wonder if I had left it on for the full 20 minutes, if my hair would have turned out more brown? I think that orange I was seeing was the surfacing of the reds & golds in the previous dyes I had used. Probably, they would have come out too if I had left Oops on the remaining 5 mins? Doesn't matter really. I am one HAPPY woman again. And, I can re-color when I want. DEFINITELY WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

My 15 year old son come home last night with BLUE hair! I had him try to wash it out and that did not work so I started to research removers and found Color Oops. I did not know what to do so I bought it. I got it home and read the fine print and it said will not work on direct dyes. (pink, blue, purple, etc.) I already had it and was quite desperate(and did not want to really mess up his hair) so I used it. After like 10 mins I could see the color coming out! At the end of 20 mins only a little green tint was left. VERY LITTLE consindering how BLUE it was! Highly recomended!!!!

Just now used Color Oops. Had dark ends and brown regrowth. While it didn't restore my ends to my natural color completely, it got the dark light enough to blend with my natural color instead of looking stripey like it was before. After processing 20 mins., you HAVE to rinse for a MINIMUM of 5 mins (longer if you have long or thick hair). I obsessed over this important step which I believe greatly contributed to my good results. Rinse, shampoo, rinse, shampoo, for a lonngggg time...its worth it!

I don't usually write comments however if someone is feeling doubtful on this product take a chance I did and was very grateful after coloring my hair to what I thought was going to be a "sassy" red turned out I looked like a punk rock groupie at 35 the looks of my hair made me literally sick and I cried for the first two days I had to do it till I finally broke down and bought color oops I figured it couldn't get any worse so I took a chance my next option was going to be to shave it and go with a wig - after using this product it brought me back to my natural brown with some natural looking lighter highlights - I didn't need to re-color to get the look I wanted I was very happy with the results and thank god the gothic red is out. I do recommend to deep condition afterwards I purchased Aussie 3 minute miracle and applied it following the instructions when I was finished and it made it very soft and manageable - it's as if I never colored it to begin with nice job color oops.

I tried a different brand of dark brown hair color than the one I usually use, and to my horror my hair came out a flat jet black, plus the color didn't take in parts of my hair so I had lighter patches in the back. What a nightmare! I tried several washings with Dawn detergent to strip the color, to no avail. I had started to come to terms with the thought of wearing a scarf on my head for the next few months, until I went shopping a couple of days later and spotted Color Oops. The price was right, so I purchased a box. I figured I had nothing else to lose at that point, as my hair already looked frightful. I applied the Color Oops and left it on for the full twenty minutes, then shampooed and rinsed twice and applied a deep conditioner. The end result...the horrid patchy jet black was GONE, and I was left with a lovely medium-dark brown color (which is what I was orignally shooting for) and the shine has even returned to my hair! I have naturally curly hair and this product was very gentle. I have absolutely no complaints and I would use this product again without hesitation. Thank you Color Oops!

Okay, so as a lot of other girls I went to the salon a couple of days ago to get my hair dyed a "dark brown" for the new school year. (I have done this for the fall for a good two years now.) The hair dresser specifically told me that my hair will be "the darkest shade of brown." Having done this for a couple years now I was confident that the final results would be satisfactory. Then, as the hair dresser was blow drying my hair, I was shocked to see my new hair color... JET BLACK! I was horrified. It made me look pale and that color did not look good on me at all. I then researched a lot of different methods of how to either completely "strip" my hair, (which requires bleach that will dry out your hair), just let it grow out or use Color Oops! A day after my hair was dyed, I went to my local CVS to buy the product. I was a little hesitant to use it at first. But the next morning I just couldn't bare to see myself in the mirror with jet black hair, so I just used it. The end result?: Well, my hair was previously highlighted before so my hair is now a shade or two lighter with dark caramel highlights. Although the product said that it would "strip" your hair to the lightest shade possible, I was happy to see my results instead! overall, I would recommend this product to a friend. Though I would tell her not to expect to have the same results as I had because I think this product works differently on everyone. (Just read the other reviews.)

Had my hair colored at a beauty school. Strawberry blonde please. You guessed it - dark brown with auburn overtones and a few blonde streaks. On a very fair skinned 63-year-old it was hideous. Googled "Hair Color Removers" and this site came up. Decided to try Color Ooops. Wasn't sure it would work on Professionally colored hair. 20 minutes later and with the house smelling badly of rotten egs (we have every window open and every fan going) my hair is strawberry blonde. Perhaps a little brassy, but a toner will take care of that today. It took ALL that hideous color out. Fantastic stuff. Try it, it really works, I was amazed and very pleased. Penneys told me it would cost $85. per hour to lighten my hair and couldn't guarantee how many hours of treatment it would take. For [$] I did it myself. HOORAY!!! Found it at my local Walgreens - the extra pennies are for tax.

I dyed my hair after having it relaxed....first off, if you do this, only leave the color on for 5 minutes at most. I left it on WAY too long. I have red hair and used light auburn dye. I looked like Bozo with cellophane red hair. Scary. I used Color Oops and only left it on for about 4-5 minutes (I could see the lighter color hair coming up) and it worked LIKE A GEM. I could leave my house without a hat. AWESOME product.

My natural haircolor is light mousy brown. I color and highlight to a medium golden blonde. Late last night I applied Natural Instincts in dark golden blonde. What I got was very dark red, almost burgundy, yet somewhat orange. It didn't look well on me at all. I sat up for hours perusing the reviews for Color Oops. The positive feedback outweighed the negative, but after living with this horrendous color for a morning, I was afraid to do anything. I never dreamed that this color would look so bad, but lighter orange hair wasn't a much better option. I went to Walgreen's and bought a box (on sale!). I was pretty scared, but my husband finally said, "You have to do something." That's when I knew that my hair was even worse than I realized. I did the strand test, and the results looked like an improvement, so I went for it. It does smell pretty bad, but only while I was using it. I took all of the bottles, gloves, etc. out to the trash can right away, and put the towels right into the washing machine, used an exhaust fan in the bathroom, and it was fine. I did follow the rinsing and shampooing directions religiously. My hair is very close to the color it was last night before I colored. I have some pretty nice highlights, and the dark root line is blended in very satisfactorily. So try it. Just follow the directions, and don't cut corners. And don't assume that semi permanenr haircolor isn't a huge commitment.

I bought a brown hairdye a couple of days ago and when I dyed it last night it turned my hair BLACK!!! Devastated I tried clarifying shampoo to fade it (less then 5 hours after I did the dye job), strand tested a high lift brown that didn't do anything to the hair, took that back and bought the color oops. It seemed like a great product based on the 100+ reviews here and considering it hadn't even been 24 hours thought for sure it would help. I bought a toner to remove the brass once I did the color oops and then proceeded.

I followed the directions to the letter. After my 2 shampooings and 15 minutes of intermittent rinsing as directed by the package, I didn't get the orangy brownish color that was mentioned by everyone. I came out a few shades lighter with a coffee brown color with noticeable reddish tones when standing in the light. I mean I'm glad it's not black anymore but it's not much of an improvement.

Is this typical? I thought this stuff was stronger than that.

I dyed my blonde hair red about a month ago. It was a little darker than I wanted it to be so I tried to lighten it by dying it back to blonde. No go. It didn't do much of anything. I gave it a few weeks and decided to try to lighten it again. Still no go. So I searched the internet for something to get the color out and found the reviews here for Color Oops. After reading it I tried to give it a try. It worked! My hair is a little brassy but I probably could've left it in a little longer. I'm going to do my highlights this afternoon and then use the L'Oreal Tone Refiner to tone it down a little. Overall I am impressed. I wish I had known about this before. I tried to dye my hair brown once and ended up with green hair. I went to the salon to have a Malibu treatment, which is supposed to strip all the color out. It didn't. Then I went home and dyed it 5 more times. It still had a hint of green but it wasn't as bad. The only problem was my hair was fried. I eventually got it all cut off because it could only combed when it was soaking wet, otherwise it would snap right off. If only I had known ...

I dyed my hair black not really thinking about how hard it would be to get it light again. After my very light-brown roots started growing I looked for something to fix it. Salon's quoted my cost anywhere from $75 to $150 to fix it and I'm a broke. So after reading hundreds of reviews on this product I tried it. I didn't think it would work at all or turn my head orange. But it took my very black hair to my natural color that I haven't seen since I was a freshman in high school *8 years*. Wonderful product. I recently decided to darken my dark brown hair a bit. I had never dyed my hair (either at home or in a salon). I bought a box of semi-permanent black dye. I left it on for seven minutes and when I rinsed it out my hair was jet black. I tried some of the home fixes I read online--washing with Prell repeatedly, washing with hot olive oil--but none of the color came out. About 36 hours after initially dying my hair, I bought Color Oops after reading the reviews online. I left it on my hair for 14 mins and it pretty much took all the black out and returned hair to my natural color. I think my hair is still a tiny bit darker than my natural color was and has a few natural looking reddish highlights now. However, friends that didn't know I dyed it black and then removed black dye, didn't notice that anything was different.

The only real con was the smell. Although I don't think it is nearly as bad as some of the reviews make it sound. Because I had read the reviews first, I lit some candles in my house before starting the process and that helped. I also opened a window afterwards and the smell is not that strong a day later. None of the friends I was around just a couple hours after Color Oops could smell the sulfur odor. (I shampooed with Nexxus, conditioned with Neutrogena Hair Mask, and put Biosilk on it when dry to help with the smell.)

Overall, extremely pleased with Color Oops. It took the black out and got me back to my natural color quickly, easily, and without damaging my hair.

I have been going to the salon for years for my color. I am a strawberry blonde naturally , but sometimes I get a wild hair and want to go completely red. Well, when I get sick of coloring my hair every four weeks,I go to the salon and have my girl "fix it." That visit always takes anywhere from five to seven hours in the chair and costs me approximately $140. With the economy the way it is, I had neither the time or the money for all of that. I found Color Oops at Walgreen and decided to try it. I did the strand test and it lifted the red to a coppery blonde (which, I read in the bad reviews is what makes people mad... these are obviously people that have never had their hair stripped. I have to say having done it through a salon that the copper color even happens there). Knowing that, I had bought Natural Instincts no brass blonde to follow up. I left No Oops on my hair for 20 minutes under a shower cap and then washed it off with two shampoos and deep conditioned my hair. When my hair was air damp, I followed up with the no brass blonde and ended up with a lovely Honey Blonde color with no brass what so ever. Seriously people give this stuff a try. It is really smelly, but again most products are, so just be prepared. It is pretty stinky but it was soooo worth the effort and the price. It cost me only [$] (Color Oops plus the Natural Instincts) and about an hour and a half of my time to go from a deep dark red to a beautiful honey blonde. Give it a shot :)

I tried to bleach it today, but then only my new growth lightened (to bright orange!!!! =[), while the rest of my hair stayed JET BLACK. Then, I read all the reviews here, and I had hope! I told my bf to buy me some color oops, and just one box saved me!! I used it right after I had bleached, and it was so gentle. Now, my hair is an over all even reddish brown color, which I don't really mind. I might even just leave it the way it is, and not dye it the brown that I wanted to. Just make sure you rinse it alot!! I LOVE COLOR OOPS!!! Saved me hundreds of dollars at the salon =]

I used a "Mahogany Chestnut" dye that turned my salon-dyed auburn hair that's naturally a bronze blonde a frightful shade of eggplant. I'd had it done at the salon for years, but I was trying to save money - how hard can it be to dump dye on your hair, right?
Wrong. After doing my best to fade it out with dawn and repeated washing, I tried Color Oops. I left it on for about 12 minutes. It took the deep purple out and left me with pale auburn orangey hair - about what you'd expect - my natural color is pale but I've been coloring it reddish for years.
I was able to re apply a more sane shade of auburn the same day and am much happier.
I applied a deep conditioner on my hair and let it sit for about 30 minutes after I was done, but my hair wasn't overly fried by the Color Oops.
It does smell pretty bad - I smelled like a home perm until after the deep conditioning and a long second shower.

Very happy with the product over all. It met my hopes and expectations and didn't do any of the things I was worried it would do. (I had visions of my hair falling out in colorless clumps.) Even after the first bad dye, the 25 showers, the color oops and the second dye job, my hair is still pretty healthy.

I was strawberry blonde and tried to darken the red a bit..I ended up dark magenta and very unhappy. I did a search for removing hair color and found color oops at Walgreens. I took the trip in, purchased two packages and about an hour later was back to blonde. I was amazed. It did bleach out my hair a bit more then it was, so my hair is now a bit blonder, bit I'm just so happy to not have dark magenta hair anymore!! I've not yet redyed my hair, but plan to soon.
It does have a bad smell, similar to perming solution, and it still smells like that the next day, but to have the bad dye out of my hair makes it worth it.

Doesn't take you back to your real color, mine was gray so that was good. Left it a light reddish color which was easily taken care of when I recolored immediately (the instructions recommended anyway). Buy a color filler (local beauty supply store) to make sure the new color takes properly.

I am not a hair color junky. Over the years I had dyed my hair once or twice, but never very far from my normal color. On a whim, I decided to dye my flaxen-blonde hair red. I really did like it, but after a few days I realized that I wasn't as confident with the red as I am blonde, and maybe I chose a color a bit too bright for me. I decided to try this product after reading HUNDREDS of reviews online. I did the strand test and kinda saw results but couldn't tell how good. So I took a risk and poured it on. The stuff is a bit messy, but not horrible. I wore an old rain poncho which helped with the mess. The smell was a but pungent, but after washing my hair 5 times (I wasn't going to take a chance) with herbal essence shampoo, and conditioning with biolage intensive conditioner (both of which smell yummy), the stench wasn't bad. I also use Dr. Bromner's eucalyptus soap as a body wash which makes the whole bathroom smell like a spa! I swear that my hair went back to a lighter shade of blonde than normal, like how it used to be 5 years ago before it darkened a bit. YAY for me, but be careful if you don't want results like that (I left the goo in for the full 20 minutes). Also, there is a tiny tint of red, so subtle but enough to give me a great strawberry blonde look. I think this is because my long hair (thin, but a huge head full down to my breasts) needed a bit more of the stuff than one bottle provided. One hint for those ladies who hate the smell: Use a bit of leave in conditioner (herbal essence's is nice) for a few days. Not only will it make your hair smell great, but it will help to protect it in its delicate state.

I've been coloring my hair for along time now. Since Ive been outside a lot, my hair color had faded alot. I decided to color it with a chestnut brown and it turned out a magenta black color. I was mortified!

Very skeptical about Color Oops but after I tried what Revlon told me, dandruff shampoo with baking soda (not) and rinsing with Diet coke (not) I bought a box.

Started out with a strand test and after 8 minutes could see my hair changing. Put the rest of the formula on and kept checking the color. Only 10 minutes later I shampooed, rinsed for 5 minutes (MUST DO!) and conditioned. My hair is a very pretty light golden brown.

Thanks so much for a great product! :)

A friend of mine wanted to dye my hair black and my bangs reddish. Black is a good color on me but usually by the summer time it has grown out and blended beautifully with my natural brown and red tints. However this summer it stayed balck and the red grew out!! i think it even got darker the more sun I got!! So I wanted to dye my hair back to my natural color. I got two boxes of Color Oops and two boxes of Natural Match... I used the Color Oops first and it only took onoe box!! (my hair is long). When I rinsed it out my Natural Color was back COMPLETELY!!! (except for my bangs which came out a little to blonde). So I used my hair dye to even it out...only it took it back to black!!!!
So I then used the Second box of Color OOps to take out the dye I used and when i rinsed that out I had the Orginal Gorgeous color that I was suppose to get from the Natural Match dye!!! A Golden Medium Brown!!!!
I can't say i was completely horrified by my color to begin with I just wanted my natural back, and Color OOps gave me EXACTLY what I wanted!!!!
The smell is horrible but from reading other reviews about rinsing it with a deep conditioner...I will try it and hope it works!!!
Oh yeah and I am also almost Six months pregnant and have severe Asthma, but this product is COMPLETELY safe to use and didn't irritate or bother me once!!!!!!!

It doesn't get any easier than mixing the contents of bottle 1 into bottle 2. You don't even have to shake it. Just 'tip it over' a few times.

My boyfriend went into the bathroom after I used color oops and he said it smelled like "bad eggs," or, something comparably putrid.

A few weeks ago I colored my hair ashy blonde. But because my ends were so light from being highlighted (and from sun exposure), they really absorbed the dye and just became a tint of dark grayish-green. The rest of my hair took the color well, but when I then tried to highlight on top of that, the highlights turned a white-ish yellow!

I just wanted to start over!

Color oops will take the dye out. However- and this is on the box- it WON'T take you to your original color if you have EVER lightened your hair.

If your hair is in good condition then this product won't do any harm.

The box also says that you can re-color the same day but I advise against this. All hair color kits recommend that you wash your hair no sooner than the day before you are going to color your hair and especially after removing color you'll want to let your hair's natural oils build up to protect it a little.

I really did not believe this would work. It was a last resort before going to the salon (the place that messed me up in the first place). I have medium to dark brown hair. Wanted highlights...made the guy promise they would be natural looking, they were tiger stripey and too orangey blond. So, i thought i would simply wash a non permanent dye over my whole head, which ended in Natural Instincts making me a deep purple. I read on the internet that ash covers red and brass, so then I was mud purple with black ends. HOT! i saw myself in an outdoor mirror and almost burst into tears. So i got ooops. read all the reviews, and took what i thought was the most sensible advice: Don't overdo it. That is what got most of us into this mess. I let the stuff sit on my head for only seven minutes, and rinsed for a total of ten. Any more and I can tell i might have gone a little orange...but now my hair looks like a natural golden brown, with some subtle red highlights (where the orange brown ones were). Its one of the most beautiful hair colors i have ever had--for real. It looks natural, like nothing is built up on the strands (like non permanent dyes tend to look like). It feels a little straw like, but i will deep condition for a week and I am sure it will be fine. This stuff is totally for real. but just dont overdo it. 5-10 minutes is my recommendation. then you can always do it again if you are not satisfied.

So, from reading all of your wonderful reviews; I decided to finally try Color Oops. Despite having a bad feeling about it, I did it anyways. Well guys, I should have listended to my gut instinct and put the box right back onto the shelf. I've been dying my hair black for about 5 months and I wanted to go back to my natural dirty blonde. Although Color Oops did lighten my hair some, it turned it a brassy orange red color. Not cute. So for you ladies whom have black hair and and want to get it back to your normal or lighter color, I seriously wouldn't suggest Color Oops. For you ladies with lighter hair, it might be the perfect product for you.

Ohhh yeah and for black hair dye, if you haven't already, don't do it!! Unless you want a life commitment.

A professional dyed my hair dark brown - only I had just spent a week in mexico in the sun and my hair was extremely dry and damaged, so it completely ATE the dye. He started blow drying it when my husband called to say he was waiting outside - so I left before I fully realized what had happened...he had given me black hair. I was Elvira, Cher, Wednesday Addams. I tried convincing myself it would fade - 3 days later...still as strong and as goth as ever. I read reviews on Color Oops and went to Walgreens to check it out. I would normally just go to the salon, but this was the guy who turned me into Morticia!! I did a strand test and liked the results. My hair is fine and goes down to the middle of my back. I used the entire bottle - probably could've used more. I let it set for 15 minutes, because I had read that it will take you really brassy. I shampooed twice, rinsed twice, and then conditioned and rinsed for antother 10 minutes. The Elvira is GONE!!!!!!! AND it is exactly the color I wanted it to be in the first place, a dark brown with red tones. Gorgeous! Better than I expected - this totally blew me away. If I wasn't already married, I would marry Color Oops.

After reading all about this product, I was still too scared to try it. I had been using a dark color over my white hair for many years. Now that I am in my late 50's, the color was too harsh. What to do? I just started doing the roots a lighter color, thinking, "Well, it will just grow out, and I will cut off all the dark parts." That was not an option after the roots became about an inch long. I looked horrible. I am off for the summer, so it is a good time to experiment. I bought the extra strength Color Oops. Before using, I called the company and asked what I might expect with white hair under all the very dark color. The fellow said that my hair would not be white, but very light brown to blond. That was fine, as I planned on coloring my hair after Color Oops. He was right-on about his discription. I followed the directions EXACTLY, and used a shower cap for the 20 minute processing. I rinsed and shampooed just like directions said, plus another couple of minutes. Voila! My hair was dry, but I put on an intensive conditioner before coloring. Now, my hair is med. light brown with great highlights, exactly what I was hoping for! THANKS Color Oops company, for a great product.

My hair is naturally black, and I recently highlighted my hair pink. Yes, pink. I wanted something edgier; I'm way into punk and scene fashion. (Don't worry, I'm not a rocker in my forties, I'm barely out of college. No need to shield your eyes.) However, the highlights turned a horrible, nearly fluorescent hot pink, not to mention that it was uneven. Some parts were a deep, murky purple. I thought I could live with it, but the more I looked at it, the worse I saw myself. So, I picked this up. I was skeptical, seeing as mine were highlights and not a gentler overall dye, but the product worked to perfection. The pink is entirely washed out, leaving behind a rather nice, warm blonde where the hot pink had been. The icky purple rinsed out and left a dark chocolate brown. I am very pleased with this product.

Recently, when coloring my grays I switched brands and decided to use an all over color. Unfortunately, the color was a bit darker than I anticipated. After researching and reading reviews, I purchased color oops. I followed the directions precisely (especially the shampooing and rinsing). To my surprise my hair turned bright orange. It is horizontally striped orange and brown (brown being my natural color). What a joke. [...] My stylist told me my hair would need to be stripped and then re-colored b/c of the large chunks of orange dispersed throughout my hair.

Thank goodness this product really works! I used a warmer hair color and ended up with dark red. Then, stupidly, tried to highlight and when that looked terrible I tried to tone down the red by using a semi-permanent. Nothing worked. Finally I got up the nerve to use the OOPS. It worked! Turned my hair gold where highlighted and lightened up the rest. All the red was gone! Then I used Feria medium ash blonde. I did a lot of strand testing. This is important! Finally got a nice even golden brown. My color! It looks fabulous and I spent [$] two and a half hours.

I have naturally dark brown hair. And over the last few years I've been growing in grays, so I've been coloring my roots dark brown for quite sometime. Well the whole reason I bought this product was because I want a lighter color, but you can't just add a lighter color on top of dark color because it just won't show. It will stay dark. So I figured if I can strip all the dark color out and start fresh with a new lighter brown that I would finally get the color I want. Well when I recolored, it got dark again, but not as black as it usually gets, and my roots stayed a dark orange, which I was very unhappy with. So I was ok with the rest of my hair but not my roots. Maybe I just didn't get a good hair color that's specifically works on gray. But it does say it on the box. Anyway, I guess for those of you that aren't graying yet, it will work.

I bought it at my local Walgreen's, did a strand test which came out good, and then did my whole head. I just finished and it worked great! Now I can go to work tomorrow. It did smell a little like perm solution and it was drippy. Well worth it and saved me a ton of money my hairdresser would have charged to fix the color job from hell!

I picked up a box of dark brown dye and thought I would go a little darker than usual. Imagine my suprise when it came out jet BLACK!!! I received such crazy reactions that I was almost ready to cry. I was almost ready to go to a salon (even though I really couldn't afford it) until I saw an add for this product. I read the majority of the reviews and I of course had the jitters but I thought what else could go bad. I picked up the box and a back up dye (2 shades lighter than I wanted like all the reviews stated) and a cap to lock in the heat. I did a strand test and I was delighted to see the outcome. I jumped in with both feet. I left it on for 20 minutes and then rinsed for a while, then washed it twice and put conditioner on twice. It still smells a little and as the day has gone on it has darkened a little but I am SSSSOOOOOO glad to be rid of the black. I will probably redo it later. For now though the color is presentable and my hair does not feel coarse or damaged. I am glad I went through with it.

My hair was in horrible condition, plus it's extremely thin and I was scared of losing a lot. I was completely skeptical, but it actually worked. It took my jet black hair to a red/orange color and i actually like it a lot. I left it on forr 45 minutes instead of the recomended 20, though. It didnt damage my hair at all. In fact, after 30 minutes of deep conditioning, my hair feels better than it has since i started dying it!

I have light brown hair with natural blonde highlights framing my face from the sun. I decided to try to give my hair a reddish tint, almost like auburn, so I picked up Natural Instincts in what I thought would be a good color. Turns out I was wrong. It turned my brown hair dark brown and my blonde hair like burgendy red, which does not look good when framing the face.

I figured since it was semi-permanent, I would just let it fade out within the 28 washes like other colors have before. But I couldn't stand the way it looked so a little over 24 hours after first dyeing it, I picked up color oops.

I read a lot of reviews and worked quickly starting at the bottom of my hair and working my way up so that the whole process would last 15 minutes. I didn't want to do the whole 20 since my sister's hair turned orange when she was younger from hydrogen peroxide. I used pretty much the whole bottle and then used a wide tooth comb to make sure it was distributed easily.

After 15 minutes, I shampooed with a moisturizing 2 in 1 and rinsed for 5 minutes, then repeated. I did not use a conditioner, but sprayed a leave in conditioner instead and brushed through my hair.

After blow drying, voila! It was back to my normal color, though I'm not sure if it's a little lighter because I was used to the dark color. Regardless, I'm so happy with this product!!

I have used this product three times in the past - the most recent time I used a few tricks that made it work better than the previous two times. I started out with a medium ash brown color (from dye, not natural) that had been on my hair several weeks; I followed the directions, but after I applied all of the product to my hair, I tied a plastic bag around my head to cover my hair (and to trap heat), and then used a dryer to enhance the dye removal process during the first seven minutes. I rested three minutes; then I repeated the 7 minutes of heat and 3 minutes of rest. Next I used a clarifying shampoo while rinsing my hair, but I shampooed about eight times instead of the recommended two - I also flipped my head over and rinsed that way too. This seemed to prevent the color from re-depositing on my hair, as some previous reviwers have noticed can happen within the next few days. After drying my hair, I used a Feria dye, which completely removed that awful sulfur smell from my hair. I put a deep conditioner on my damp hair, and covered it and left it on overnight. The next morning, my hair was the exact shade on the Feria box, and was soft and not any more damaged than it was before using Color Oops! and Feria. I can't recommend this product enough - it is so much gentler than going to a fancy salon to get a bleach job; not to mention its also a lot cheaper! The first two times I used Color Oops!, I didn't have quite as good of results as this time - I really feel that the aforementioned tricks and tips written above helped to impove this product's peformance. I hope this helps, good luck!

Color Oops Extra Strength is really great! After I died my hair black a few months ago, I started to miss my golden brown locks. So I started to research methods of color removal. Being no expert, I consulted a cosmetologist. She told me I had two options: Either have my hair chemically stripped (which would damage it even further than coloring already had, and which would force me to recolor right away), or let the black grow out and have it cut. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. Then a few months later I came across a product review for Color Oops in InStyle magazine. At first I thought that a product that would remove the color from my hair without damaging it was too good to be true. But I went to my local Walgreens and checked out the instructions ( I would recommend reading them very carefully!). I noted that it may be necessary to use more than one application of Color Oops to pull all the dye from the colored hair. After only one application I was a brunette again and I even had some of my old natural highlights back. The ends of my hair were still a little too dark so i did another application the next day (yes, it's that gentle). The second application took even more of the color out and I am very satisfied with the results! I had read some reviews saying the product smelled awful, but I didn't think the smell was that bad. The more you wash your hair and rinse, the more the smell goes away. Overall, I am extremely happy with this product and the great thing is, it's cheap, and you don't have to recolor your hair right after using Color Oops.

I dyed my hair this awful dark brown that turned out to a mahogony with purple tinge. I went to my salon where she did a color rinse to try and pull some off the purple out using a green based dye... My hair turned even darker. So for the last few days I tried to live with this elvira meets bozo the clown hair color. I finally went to the store and purchased Color Oops! It worked my hair is back to a auburn. I think from now on, I will go to a salon.. and have my hair dyed professionally.

So, I'll TRY to make this short and sweet. I had my natural dark brown hair highlighted caramel and blonde at the beginning of this year. Last weekend I decided to dye it because the highlights were growing out and my dark roots were starting to show and overall, it just looked dumpy. So, I went to [...] picked up a box of 'Dark Beige Blonde' (going for a Jessica Alba/ Jennifer Aniston--type of look). Well, it turned out a nasty shade of SUPER DARK GREENISH GROSS BROWN. I mean DARK brown. It made me look like a corpse or something--since I'm pretty fair skinned. The dark made me look like the living dead. ANYWAY, I was researching online how to get rid of undesirable hair color and stumbled upon 'Color Oops'. I was VERY weary about trying it since I've heard bad things about hair color removal kits. I spent 2 days reading the 98% POSITIVE reviews about Color OOps, and decided to buy some. I bought 2 boxes since I've got long hair. I did it last night and I am SO HAPPY I DID!!!!!!!!! Did it damage my hair? (my main concern) NOT AT ALL----in fact, my hair looks and feels better than before! My other concern was that my hair would be NEON orange; nope---not even close. It turned a GORGEOUS light auburn color with a few baby blonde highlights. It looks very natural. As you've heard, lots of people say it smells SO NASTY. I didn't have any issues with that. My brothers were gagging and yelling at me to leave their room, and my mom noticed the smell right as soon as she walked in the house. BUT--don't let that stop you; the smell will go away! It just smells like rotten eggs or a perm (if you know the way that smells). It's pretty runny when you put it on, and it also kept dripping on my face & stuff. But it is a really quick application process and it's so EASY to do. Just remember a few things: do an allergy test first (it kinda irritated the skin on my neck, but not bad) make sure you have a good conditioner on hand--the kit doesn't come with one. Just know that I was REALLY nervous to try this--I mean I was literally SHAKING before I used it, but just do it 'cause it's completely worth it. I am so happy I used it and my hair looks and feels great. I am SO happy with the results. Just be brave and try this stuff---it could save you from an awful color disaster!!!!!!!!

I had horrible highlites so I went to a salon and I told the lady to dye it to my natural color (chocolate brown) and she dyed it jet black. I was horrified! I needed to get rid of it, so I saw this product. It worked great, I got my natural color back and the blonde highlites came out to being a very nice color (very natural). The product smells so bad.. so horrible.. my towel, my bed pillow, all of my stuff smelled like sulfur! I guess it is worth it just keep putting perfume on yourself to make the smell neutral!

I wear clip in extensions so my hair and the added hair HAVE to match or it looks tacky. I have dyed my hair and my extensions a very deep bright red for years. Yesterday I thought I would try a different shade of red from a different box. I dyed the extensions first and while they were drying I started on my hair. Checked the extensions and OH NO! Muddy dark ick. So I immediately washed the new color out of my hair and thought "well I'll just color over with my usual brand and shade". After doing this I got Muddy Dark Purple. Great, now what?? So I came online and found these reviews. I was very nervous to try this but buying new european hair extensions would cost about $300. So I crossed my fingers and hoped these reviews were accurate. THIS PRODUCT WAS EASY! I followed the directions exactly and also used a comb to make sure the product was completely evenly distributed through the hair. The smell was not as horrid as the reviews said and was gone by the time I recolored. IMPORTANT!!! When re-coloring your hair DO NOT leave the color on for the full 25 minutes. I checked at 7 minutes and the shade was correct. This product causes hair to really grab color! Hope I never have another Oops but if I do Thank God this product is out there!!!!

I've had highlights for 3 years, all done at a salon. Every time I went it seemed I got a different color and after a while it just started looking unnatural. So I wanted to go back to my natural color which is medium brown. My stylist first used a filler on the lighter highlights and then put the permanent color mixture on my hair. To my horror the top part of my hair that had all the highlights was black!!! The underneath was a very dark brown. It looked horrible and it made me ill just looking in the mirror. I tried the home remedies found on the internet, prell shampoo, dawn dish soap, dandruff shampoo and none of them did a thing except dry my hair out. I did those treatments for 2 days. I looked online for color remover and read about color oops. I was a complete wreck because I was terrified of making a bigger disaster of my hair using it. I did several strand tests using different times, 5, 10 and 20 minutes. I did not see anyone mention this in their posts. I found if I went the full 20 minutes may hair went reddish. If I only did 5 minutes then it took out the black and left me with just my natural brown hair with reddish highlights. I went for the five minutes. I started the timer once the liquid was combed through my hair. I couldn't be happier with the results. My hair looks great and feels great. I did not get any damage and best of all I don't have to go back to my stylist. I am trilled with the results. I did not have to recolor my hair. I would highly recommend this product.

I had my hair dyed 4-5 times to get it a honey color from natural black after a while I wanted to go back to natural so I had my stylist dye it black. Well then I moved to another state and my hair turned red after a year or so. Then I bought a box of natural black and it turned out jet black. I read the instructions and it said it you dye your hair lighter before darker it can't restore your natural color but I think it came pretty darn close! I was all prepared to put a rinse on it to calm it down but there was no need. I washed it like 6 times and conditioned it. works great.

After coloring my dark blond hair shades of red and auburn for two years, I decided it was time to be blond again. Before spending the money at the colorist's, I researched various hair color removers, and considered just trying to use a blond kit over the red (although I was afraid that would make it pink). For this price, I decided to try Color Oops; worst case scenario is that I would be calling my colorist.

The end result is a golden yellow blond that will need a toner. Easy enough. So I highly recommend trying Color Oops!!!

I never write reviews, but I have to. I was on the losing end of a bet and had to color my very light blonde hair red. The girls at S***ys told me my hair would be pink, but I left and went to the drugstore and bought Feria Intense Red. Well, it wasn't exactly pink but more of a bright fuschia. I have been an at home color junkie for over ten years and have been every shade twice. I have stripped color, bleached color, and highlighted to get rid of mistakes. (All with horryifying results) I said why not and picked up two boxes of Color Oops after seeing the fucshia. Washed the bright right out back to blonde. I was expecting some shade of light pink or orange because after twenty minutes it still had all sorts of colors in it before washing. Stayed in the shower for thirty five minutes shampooing with head and shoulders (a home remedy to getting rid of botched color jobs). Worked miracles. WOrd to the wise, when I did the fuschia color my roots were growing out about an inch of medium blonde next to my super light hair. The color oops took out the fuchsia but left them more auburn than blonde. (It saves me from having to dye my roots for another month blends fairly well) save yourself the time and hassle and keep a box of this lying around

Well, it says recent dye only, but I used it on dyed hair from 7 months ago. I recently in oct had dyed my hair a redish brown and wanted to tone it down so i grabbed what was close to my natural hair color natural dark brown by clairol(big mistake) if you have previously dyed hair dont ever use a drug store color from the box. The chemicals from the previous dye made my hair turn BLACKKK! I was mortified. So i waited a few days and instead of the stylist strippin my hair we put some blonde highlights over the black. Well now 7 months later I still have not touched my hair so it looked like blonde highlights over black, the black eventually faded to a deep brown but still was dark it could have passed as black. So before i made a trip to the salon i decided to google some hair removers without bleach I came across this product and for [$] bucks im shocked, it lifted the dark almost black color and now it looks awesome even tho i have roots. I apply to only to the color i wanted out not to my roots. I only washes out non bleached colors. It smells bad but with a few washes im sure it will go away. I was a skeptic and now im a believer. Awesome product ;)

Easy to use, cheap and effective. I have ash blond hair going grey. Usually use Light Ash Blonde color but decided to go dark ash with highlights (the Clairol kits) and it turned out dark brown with brassy highlights. Decided to lighten the highlights with Demi-Permanent Lightest Ash Blonde and the whole thing turned blah ash brown.
Tried Prell and it lightened a little but still looked bad. Used this stuff and it worked.

Follow directions, rinse like crazy, condition and expect some peachy/orange-ness. I am going to go get a toner to calm it down.

My hair feels fine. Worth every penny!

I have been dying my hair for about 3 years now. My natural hair color is a light dark brown (if that makes any sense) Since i've dyed it so much and can't get it lightened I've been doing nothing but dying it dark brown to jet black. I've been saving my money up so i can go get it professionally done since I want my light hair back for summer. I was reading Cosmopolitan Magazine a few days ago when they mentioned this product, i went out and got it and just finished using it. It was gentle and easy to use, although it did smell pretty bad and stunk up my house, had to crack a few doors open. My hair is now a light brown, some areas are a little lighter which I love, kinda looks like natural highlights. I saved myself a lot of money. I would recommend this to anyone who has dyed their hair dark colors and can't get their natural color back.

My hair did feel a little dry afterwards but it's nothing a little deep conditioning can't fix. My hair also smelled a little funky afterwards but I don't mind it all that much.

I also recommend doing a strand test before using this product.

I read about 100 reviews before buying this product. Due to that, I followed the direction with precision. I am an African American female that colored my hair to cover the gray. I have medium brown hair. I will admit, I do not have what people would say is stereotypical black hair. I do have a relaxer in my hair, however I can wear my hair natural with mousse to achieve a curly look. Nevertheless, this product worked! The permanent hair color I chose turned my hair dark, dark brown--almost black. I hated it! I search the internet and found Color Oops. With some trepidation, I used it. I could not be happier! No damage, no harsh feel to the hair. I did use a deep conditioner afterward and let it sit for an hour just as a precaution. The front of my hair appears to be a shade lighter then my natural hair color (Especially at the roots. Looks like I may have highlights now). But nothing that can not be toned down with oil or mousse. Even one of the reviews I read said this will tone down after a day or two. I can not say enough for the ease of use and the overall result that I achieved. I am back to my natural hair color and I could not be happier! The smell was not that bad. I did however have plenty of ventilation (raised windows and door to a screen porch open) will applying. As for the smell left in the hair, my deep conditioner and coconut oil that I applied after using the product, took that completely away. I could not be happier with the results of this product! Natural me once again! Oh, and it didn't completely uncover all the gray. Couldn't ask for more.

well first off let me explain my story...
I love change! I am a natural light brunette almost dirty blonde. I like to mix up my colors. After about a year of ranging the entire blonde spectrum I decided I was through with being blonde and went a very dark shade of reddish brunette. Believe me my hairstylist did a phenomenal job taking me from platnum to dark brown. It was a gorgous color... only after just one month I was sick of being a brunette and wanted to be blonde again. So my next visit I told my hairstylist to slowly take me back blonde... bad mistake! He gave me platnum high lights amist my dark strands with DAMAGED my hair completely! We ended up chopping most of it off! Simply horrific. I could live with the funky cut but not the streaky color combo.

So I used oops and had terrific success. Provided I had been deep conditioning my very short dry hair for two days. My brown streaks turned to a dirty blonde with a slight orange tint (which you can minimize with violet or blue toner mixing it into your shampoo). I was very pleased with the results.

Tips:
1. if you regularly dye or bleach your hair use deep conditionin days before and days the follow
2. toner can minimize orange tints (blue or violet)
3. the smell can be minimized with sented shampoo
4. follow directions especially the rinsing

I have used this product several times now and have consistently found that the advice in the directions is very accurate: When you recolor after using Color Oops, choose a color that is one shade lighter AND more neutral or golden than you want your color to end up. If you want to end up with a warm tone, recolor with a deeply golden tone. If you want to end up with a neutral tone, recolor with something slightly golden. If you want to end up with an ash tone, recolor with something neutral. If you want to end up with an ash tone and recolor with an ash tone, you will end up with green hair. If you follow all the directions and advice, you will LOVE this product. It does what it says it will do, is fairly gentle, and doesn't smell all THAT bad. And, yes, use a deep conditioner afterwards.

I naturally have dark brown hair where i dyed it light brown 2 years ago, It grew out but my hair still had a little light brown/blond tips to my hair, and i really liked that, but the top of my hair was my natural dark brown, but i got sick of it and wanted to dye my hair jet black, it is "in" right now and i thought it looked exotic. I used the loreal feria black leather, and it came out nice, but two days into it, and i decided i don't like it anymore. I decided to buy color oops on the 3rd day and use it. I put it on but didn't know when the 20 minutes started...after i put it in or after i was done with the whole bottle. To be safe, i put the solution all over my hair and waited 20 minutes after that...i read reviews where people have said that it turns their roots orange and wait till the end to put it in the roots, but i put it in my roots anyway because it was my "natural hair color" dark brown. I figured it can't lighten my "natural" hair color (dark brown) any lighter, since its not a bleach. well after washing it out, i noticed my roots did turn lighter, like a light brown/reddish color. It didn't look bad or anything it wasn't orange. The rest of my hair turned lighter too, a light brown color. Maybe it was because i left it in longer than 20 minutes, i don't know. I like my hair this color actually but it isn't the same (dark) color as before. It looks naturally dyed light brown. it actually looks like i got hightlights...Oh yeah it also makes your hair really dry so definetily condition! but this is a great product..i thought i was stuck with jet black hair! :)

I have used Color Oops probably 5 or 6 times in the past couple of years and I think it is the best product like it on the market right now. I have never had any severe damage done to my hair that a little deep conditioner couldn't fix. I recently used it to remove a black color on the bottom layer of my hair and I stripped some red highlights out as well. This stuff removed all of the color and I could have actually left it the color it turned out! It was a dark, reddish blonde, but I decided to put a brown on top with no ill effects. If anyone wants to strip the color, they should not be afraid but PLEASE read the directions and follow them very, very closely!

This took my hair from witchy black to it's proper "darkest natural brown" which I was trying to achieve with Nice n Easy (apparently their version of darkest natural brown makes everyone have black hair - not natural at all FYI). The best thing was it didn't undye the grey's! I didn't have to redye. The worst part about it was my hot water heater couldn't support the 20 minute shower you need to take to g et all the rinsing done. . . the ending of a long cold shower was still SO worth it! YOu do need a deep conditioner after this, but really you'd expect that. I used the Neutrogena and it worked great. I am beyond pleased with this great product. The people at Clairol described a really complicated color-stripping and re-dying process I could do that didn't sound possible for me at home. This was so much better. If you mess up your hair you can fix it with this.

Just had my hair dyed Saturday. It was supposed to be a medium brown with some reddish highlights in it. [$] later, it was a dark brown on the top with DEEP RED highlights, and the bottom half of my hair was inky black. When I got home and saw it in my own mirror, I freaked! I shampooed it right away, but the color didnt budge. Thanks to everyone who took the time to review this product. It gave me the confidence to try it. It was easy to use, and now my hair is an EVEN brownish red with some deeper red highlights on the top!!!! I LOVE the way it looks now and am so relieved!! My hair is VERY soft, so it does not appear to have hurt it much.

I had colored my hair a bright red color that was awful. Pebbles Flinstone comes to mind........I had done everything to try to get it out. I tried all the home remedies including washing with dish soap and washing with dandruff shampoo. All this did was fade the color and make it worse. I read about this product and decided it could not do any more damage. My hair is back to it's original blonde color!!!! I am so happy with the results. My hair is not dried out either!!!! Great product!!!!

My colorist and I are parting ways... My last color came out perfect, on top, but underneath, the previous darkened color I did myself was the same, if not darker (he was supposed to fix it with highlights, but forgot to do underneath, and added a base color, which only darkened it). I figured, it's messed up, I have to get it fixed anyway, so why not try this first, it'll either still be messed up or maybe ok. I painted it on with a brush to just the dark pieces underneath, like you paint on highlights. It wasn't messy at all, the same as regular highlights. It smells horrendous, but the smell is gone after I shampooed (I shampooed twice, and rinsed for about 7 or 8 minutes). Then I used a Oscar Blandi treatment mask, because I could tell it was really drying. It seems fine now, though, maybe with a little more body? Yeah! The color looks natural. There's a couple pieces I may need to do again (it's still damp, we'll see when it's fully dry), but I just had to write. I was scared to try this, but I'm so glad I did.

I've been coloring my hair for 20 years. Been every shade of the color wheel. Wish I had this then. This actually took me from witchy black to copper red. Great thing is it took evenly. That was really surprising because my hair has been highlighted blonde, lowlighted caramel and the last total mess up which I actually did to myself and that was using a demi-permanent in warm brown and it turned BLACK. LOVE< LOVE< LOVE this product!!!!!!

My natural hair color is some kind of mousy brown mixed with a little bit of gray. I tried to color my hair the color of the brown in my hair and it was way to dark. I used OOPS and it took the dark dye out. My hair wasn't back to the natural color. It was kind of a strawberry blond. But that was the color I liked most of the time anyway. So I was very pleased. It smells, maybe a little drippy but it didn't hurt like hair color remover by Loreal does.

okay so i had light brown with blonde highlights, well i wanted darker hair, so i dyed it a dark brown but it kept fading really really fast, so stupid me decided to dye it black. i figured it would fade quick and turn to brown, wow was i wrong.. i guess everyone was right once your hair is black it never goes back. so i liked it the first night but after that i hated it and so did my family.... I looked up on the internet how to get black dye out of my hair, since i was not gonna go to the salon and pay a load of money, i found color opps and the reviews sounded good so i figured what the heck??? ill try it, nothing worse can happen..... I bought the product and lets just say its amazing.... and i used it after having my black hair for three weeks.. and my hair was back to normal... ya it smelled a little bit, but not as bad as using the dye on your hair.. I deff recommend this product!!!!!! But one thing, if you have long hair i suggest in getting two bottles... my hair is down the middle of my back and two bottle would of worked better..

First of all-buy the extra strength, not the regular if you want your color out for real.

I have been highlighting my hair since I was 15. I've been a blonde since then.
I decided after all this time, that I would go out and buy a box of dark brown hair color to match my roots.
Hated it. The color wasn't bad-just bad on me.
I had a salon highlight it a few weeks later hoping to be back to blonde.
Nope-just brown with highlights.
Found this and used the regular strength last night. Lightened it considerably, but I wanted to be BLONDE.
Bought the extra strength today and I'm back!!
It did not lift all of the color-it's darker than what I started with but I would consider myself blonde again.
Thrilled beyond belief with this product. If it was only sold on the black market, I would do illegal things to get it.

Here was my dilemma: I was a bleach blonde for a while, and wanted to go back to brunette. Bought a box of brown dye, and it turned my hair a mousy grey (because the blonde wouldn't hold the dye). So I bought Color Oops and it took out the grey and put me right back to blonde. Not such a bad thing, I'll just be blonde for a little while longer.

Bottom line: this product works when you make an Oops on your hair...brings you back to your original dyed color. (I used Oops after about 2 weeks and it worked fine.) DO IT !

It was two days before I was to go up to visit my boyfriend and attend the yearly mill ball when I decided to take out my highlights. Because I wanted to look formal and my boyfriend liked it better that way anyways. [...] I bought Clairol perfect 10 dark brown hair dye. Well to my disbelief I woke up to find that my hair was JET black, but to make things worse it wasn’t even jet black all the way around! It was so splotchy. I had no idea what to do, I cried all night until I came upon Color Oops. I used it after reading all the reviews and still skeptical I figured "well how much worse could it get." The next morning my hair was all most back to it natural color and looked so shinny and had a warm tent to it, so I just left the color in. Surprisingly IV gotten so may complements on it that if I could I would do it again!!! It really saved my mill ball and my hair!

My 15-year old daughter wanted to color her naturally dark blond hair a dark brown/auburn color. It looked good, but she felt like it was too red and wanted it out. The next day, we used Oops, which I happened to read about online. I was afraid I might not get even coverage and have patches of dark color, but no, it was easy to apply and when she finally emerged from the bathroom, she was a blond again! Worked perfectly!

Like some of the other posts, I too had a disaster hair job courtesy of a pricy "master colorist". I have naturally dark blonde hair and have been highlighting it ash blonde for 7 years. For some reason, I wanted a change. I found a perfect picture of a very light copper chestnut and brought it in to best communicate what I was looking for. "Sure, no problem" she said looking at the picture. I had no doubt that she would be able to do it since she does blonde so well. I closed my eyes and let her do her thing. Well, my hair turned out burgandy-black! I was horrified! She knew that she messed up royally, but decided to bring over all the stylists in the salon to tell me how amazing I looked! I should also mention that I also got the most hideous haircut of my life too - but that's beside the point. I paid my $250, and left hoping that I'd get used to it.
A week later, I still didn't recognize the person in the mirror and knew that something had to change. I've had professional color corrections before and could not justify the $300+ to get that done, so I went online and found Opps.
I'm a natural skeptic, but despite my worries I trusted all of the amazing reviews and went out and bought a box AND a box of L'Oreal blonde hair color. The next morning my husband helped me apply the solution to my hair and I set the timer and wrapped a (very attractive) Target plastic bag around my head and bit my nails for 20 minutes while it processed.
I followed the directions exactly - I used Graham Webb clarifying shampoo and shampooed 4 times with 5 minutes rinsing in between the shampoos. I was in the shower for so long I had to sit down in the tub! The result?
My hair was a pretty dark auburn. Certainly not the color I was expecting since so many reviews said Oops took out almost all of the red out. I was actually expecting a light orange - I thought that would be okay since I would be re-dying right away. But it was still very dark. So, off to the drugstore again! I Oopsed a second time the same day, followed the same directions, towel dried and - NOTHING! It was the same!!! No change!

So bottom line is my hair is a better color now than when I walked out the salon, but nothing close to the color I was a week ago and definitely not anything close to my natural color.

The rotten egg smell is bad, but it's waay better than living with ugly hair. It's almost not even worth mentioning. I washed my hair so many times that my hair doesn't smell like sulfer - so the trick is to rinse well.

I would recommend this to anyone who wants to lighten a too-dark hair color, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who has unrealistic expectations of getting back the beautiful hair they once had. My hair is surprisingly healthy - much better than it would be if I went in for a color correction. i look okay red, but I look great blonde. Good luck girls - I hope your results are better than mine.

My natural hair color is dark brown. I have been dying my hair for about 6 years now, and a few months ago I dyed it black. It was semi-permanent color and I thought it was all gone because you couldn't even see my roots, my hair was all the same dark brown color. So I bought Clairol Nice'N Easy golden brown dye that is designed for dark hair. It turned my roots a blondish, orangey brown and did absolutely nothing to the rest of my hair. I ran to the store & got Color Oops and it was very easy to use, the smell actually isn't THAT bad. After 20 minutes I rinsed my hair for 10-15 minutes and shampooed a couple of times and my hair is almost all one color now! It is a pretty light reddish brown, but since the dye I used turned my roots so light, they are a little bit lighter than the rest of my hair. I'm going to re-dye my hair in the morning to a normal brown. I was amazed at how well Color Oops worked..it took off the dye that I had just put on that night, AND the black hair dye that I had used a few months ago! This product is great!!!

I'm asian and I naturally have black hair. I've been dying and bleaching my hair since i was in middle school. I'm 23 now. I've had my hair all colors of the rainbow, literally! i'm work in an office now & to be more appropriate i've been dying my hair JET black for the past two years. I've let my roots grow out for 6 months and you can't tell the difference. but if i want to go a lighter color i know it's only going to turn my roots golden! (from experience) i didn't want to bleach my hair blond and start over so i read the reviews and decided to try this. IT WORKS!!!!!! YOU MUST GET THIS PRODUCT!!!!! i put it in my hair from roots to end. Left it in for 20 minutes. i followed the directions. now let me say.. it does NOT leave your hair to it's natural color. it left my hair a reddish light brown. THE BEST THING IS, i don't have to re-dye my hair! I LOVE THIS COLOR.. and most importantly it's EVEN from root to ends.. which has left me in awe. i don't understand how this products left my hair evenly colored but i love it!!! I WOULD PAY $100 for this product if i had to. MY HAIR IS HEALTHY and looks great! I LOVE COLOR OOOOPS!!!!!!!!!!! sorry for the long comment =)

I am an actress and I dyed my virgin blonde hair a pretty red color for a play I was in. I don't hate the color, but now the show is over and I want my natural blonde hair back again. I read, literally, 100s of reviews of Color Oops before using it because I am new to hair coloring and I am terrified of ruining or really damaging my hair. Anyway, most of the reviews were so good that I tried it. It's just disappointing. I followed the directions exactly and my hair is the same color after as before. And now it smells really weird and STRONG. But it doesn't seem damaged or anything. It was just a waste of money and time.

This was my first time to use this product. I usually dye my med/dark brown hair a light brown. Then when winter was coming I decided to dye it from light brown back to med/dark brown. It looks good but now that spring is almost here I want it to be light brown again. Oops removed all the med/dark brown color out of my hair & I was back to a light brown. The color it left me with is very natural looking. It left my hair in good condition too. I used to use One N' Only Color Fix from Sally Beauty Supply (also a good product) but the Oops seems to be more gentle on my hair. Make sure you follow the directions exactly & if you recolor the same day or the next day be sure to go one shade lighter than you want your hair color to be because the color remover will make your hair very porous & it the dye will be a shade darker then what the box says. Hope this info helps. Good luck!

I was amazed there was enough product in the bottle to cover all of my hair (it's really thick) and even more amazed when I could almost instantly see my hair changing color. I didn't have any weird color patches in the end. My hair is slightly lighter than my natural hair color, but it's a nice color. My hair isn't damaged much at all. I'm kind of shocked considering how scared I was to try it.

I was hesitant to use this product, as it seemed too good to be true and I was terrified that it would turn my hair bright orange or green or something. As long as you follow the directions EXACTLY and rinse your hair as directed, this product really really works! I had dyed my hair a less than complimentary shade of red and decided to give this a try before full out bleaching the color out. The smell is a little weird and the product is VERY MESSY (it drips all over). What really works is putting a shower cap or even plastic grocery bag over your hair while it is processing.

The end result was very natural. I plan to dye it with brown to darken it up just slightly, as the end result was a little blond. However, there is not one trace of red in my hair. I am very impressed. I'm glad that there is a product like this that I (as a home hair coloring addict) can count on if I make a big mistake with my hair color. This stuff works! Just follow the instructions carefully and wash your hair and rinse as directed.

I used it twice and my hair is not damaged AT ALL...now ur hair will smell funny after- my kids keep telling me my hair smells like farts...lol... but at least it isn't BLACK!!!!

I used this today after giving my hair girl free reign. My hair looked pretty much black and my husband did not like it too much. I was trying to like it, but it wasn't growing on me. I usually have brown hair with mutiple colors of highlights. I saw this product in a magazine and ran out to buy it. My hair is now still pretty dark but you can see subtle reddish highlights on the top of my head. I have to say that I did rinse ahead of time at 15 minutes. I kind of felt like it was eating thru to my brain, so I rinsed. I don't know if it would have removed everything if I would have left it on the full 20 minutes. I was also really worried that it was frying my hair. I fried my hair once really bad and it took years to get it back to healthy! But after blow drying, its still soft and looks ok. I guess it was worth it, I do think it looks better than it did earlier. And thank God it didn't fry my hair!

I've been bleaching my hair for so many years I was just tired of being blonde, but dark hair doesn't look good on me. I decided to go with a copper-red which I loved but it faded much too fast. So I tried a red-brown color and it came out... ewwww... burgandy. It was a beautiful color, really it was, but not on me. Thought maybe I'd give it a couple of days and see if it "grew on me" but I still hated it. Then I saw a review for Color Oops and decided it was worth a try. WooHoo I'm back to the blond I was before. I figure I'll wait a couple of weeks before trying to find a nice copper shade again, or maybe I'll just stay blonde. After all, the gray is barely noticable among the blonde hair. The smell of Color Oops is pretty bad, but no worse than bleach or regular hair color.

If you're a DIY haircolorist, keep a box of this at home. I was tired of paying salon prices so I decided to try coloring my hair myself. Have been "experimenting" with various brands, various tones & levels of developer, etc. Decided to just "strip" it all out, as well as the previous salon dye that had come out too dark anyway. ColorOops will remove all the artificial dye--again, like it has been said, you will be left with whatever pigment is underneath your natural color when you dyed it--it will only remove the artificial color molecules. In my case it's now golden orange. Tomorrow I will experiment with a few, various ash shades to see if I can tone down the gold/orange. If not, I will probably bleach it out or add highlights because I don't want to go darker again.

I used this 24 hours after I colored. Followed the directions exactly--between your shampoos you have to rinse your hair, literally, for 10 minutes, according to directions. I took a clock with me into the shower to make sure. I can BARELY smell a slight sulfer odor now--barely noticable.

I used a tube of Natural Instincts conditioner when finishing. My hair feels soft and no different than before I started. Oh, and I also used gloves that didn't come in the box. I also used a wide-tooth comb to work it all through once I applied it to my scalp. My scalp feels very slightly tingly now, a few hours later, but it's probably from just doing two chemical processes in 24 hours (coloring and then color oops). Hardly as "tingly" as it gets at the salon when it's covered in hair dye and itching and burning! Not nearly as bad.

I'm going to always keep a box of this on hand for "just in case."

After reading the reviews, good and bad, I decided to give it a try. I figured the worse is that I would be coloring it darker. This is what happened. I had a salon put in "Peek-a-Boo" highlights. I asked for a light golden brown and a brown that would be about 2 shades darker. Well the light brown was a Blond and the darker brown turned black. I looked like a skunk! So i went back and she tried to fix it. She colored the blond a darker brown. At first it was great then it faded in about 2 weeks. Looking like a skunk again. I went back and showed her what had happened. She said that she could color it but it would have to be an all over color to blend it correctly. So we tried that. Well my dark brown/black which faded, was back to black again and the highlighted area was a purple brown color almost black. She said to give it another two weeks and let her know. Well it faded again. By this time my bra length hair was so damaged, it was breaking. After two weeks I went back because of the purple lightening to a pinkish color. This time she said that she had tried everything that she knew about color and couldn't help me any further unless I do a full corrective color. Which I would have to pay for. I pointed out how my hair has been breaking and then she suggested I cut it. YUP I listened once again!! So off went my bra length hair to a choppy pixie cut and colored once again. My hair was now official black. We are talking about 7-10 inches GONE!!!! I went home & cried my eyes out. I thought that it would fade out like the other colors but this time it didn't. Now 5 1/2 months later and it still not fading, I had to do something about it. I did some research with other salon's and all of them told me I would have to do a corrective color, $100 or so. I was also told that I couldn't do highlights. Then I went to the internet and found out about this product. I made sure to find people's reviews that had hair like mine. BLACK!!! Seeing the 155 reviews and most of them positive, I had to try it. I went out that night and bought it and it was the first thing I did in the morning. AND IT WORKED!!!! THANK GOD!!!! NO MORE BLACK!!!!I did color my hair after using the product and since i had read that your hair would be porse and soak up the color, I did some things to combat that from happening. Here's what I did:Mixed the color I wanted with the developer... I used a 30 min developer with a neutral based color.I also added 2 oz of conditioner to the mix. This helps the color become a semi perm color, and not deposit as much.I did the roots first, then placed the color in the palm of my hand (like shampoo) and mixed it in like a shampoo. I rinsed ASAP. I didn't wait at all. After risning I shampooed twice, then conditioned. And it was the perfect shade of brown that I wanted.I hope this helps someone who needs to correct an Oops![...]Thanks to everyone else who wrote a review!!!! It was a great help!!!!

I've been dying my hair ever since I can remember, possibly before sixth grade. My locks have been every natural color and even blue. I recently dyed it a soft black, expecting it to fade like my hair usually does. Instead of fading, though, my blonde roots just began to grow, and some gold started showing throughout the hair. I didn't like it. I wanted to lighten my hair in order to dye it a medium brown. In deciding to do a bit of research online for at-home ligthening methods, I found Color Oops. I read tons of reviews and eventually convinced my mother to help me do this, even with her being very skeptical.

It only took about five minutes to put on and automatically began to smell. It wasn't too bad, surely tolerable. I waited the correct amount of time and finally hopped into the shower. I began following the directions in how to rinse out all of the color properly and immediatly noticed that my hair was looking lighter. Boy, was I excited! I rinsed and shampooed over and over. As I would run my hands through my hair, I noticed it becoming brittle. When I would remove my hands from my hair, dry tangles of hair would come out with them. I'd say at least a handle full of hair total came out. I looked past this since I'm use to going through phases of losing my hair, but still knew it was because of the Color Oops.

Finally I stepped out of the shower and looked in the mirror to see that it was reasonably lighter, but since my hair was wet, could not determine how much lighter. However, when I did blow dry it, it was not my natural dirty blonde, but instead a medium redish, brassy brown that I am highly disappointed in. I don't know if this is simply because I've lightened and darkened my hair so many times that there is just no naturally colored pigment in my hair or if the Color Oops did not work, though.

All in all, it just did not do the job for me.

People please! It does exactly what it is supposed to do, which is give you a blank slate. You are NOT going to be your original color. So buy a box of dye in the color you want, but be very careful when redying. You hair literally sucks up the color.

My experience, I have been going to a medium brown for quite a while now. I bought L'oreal excellence in my normal color and it turned a flat nasty black. I went to walgreens and bought Color Oops. Within 15 minutes it had removed all of the hair dye out of my hair. My hair was a gross copper golor with an orange tint. I expected this because I am naturally a very light brown with red undertones. I bought a golden ash blond and coloered my hair immediately. Within 5 minutes my hair is it's normal dyed brown.

The stink is not that bad. My hair is slightly trashed, which never happens to me. Next time it happens I will just get a 30 volume developer and mix it in equal parts with shampoo to gradually lighten color.

It does what it is exactly supposed to, so have fun dying your hair!

I was expecting my hair to be stripped to an unnatural yellow, but ended up with warm light brown, which may be my natural colour. (I've coloured for 20 years, not sure WHAT is natural anymore.)

Follow the instructions exactly, including doing a strand test. I did not condition after, am going to let the cuticle relax for a few days first. Oops roughtens up the hair a bit, but is not drying or damaging. I am very satisfied with this product. No more old lady dark reds for me!

My hair is naturally dark blonde but has been dyed dark brown for almost a year. I have used a few different shades of dye so my hair is not the same consistent color. I was hoping to get it back to my natural color so I wouldn't have to keep dying it. The product lightened my hair about one shade, but it didn't do very much dramatic. My hair still has varying colors of brown.

I've had my hair black for at least a year and a half now, and with my upcoming wedding everybody has been telling me to loose the black. After thinking about and searching for a color to bring me back to my natural color (which is a medium brown), a lady in Walgreens recommended this to me. I was very skeptical at first thinking this would never work. I decided to give it a try and all the black is gone!! This stuff works wonders and I would recommend it to anyone!

After reading the reviews on here I was determined that id try using this product to get the black out of my hair.. I guess you could say dark hair has been "in style" this year, having naturally dark brown hair I decided to go darker which basically came out pitch black. I kept it for about 6 months and recently I've noticed in all the pictures I've taken from going out with my friends and family, my hair is just way too dark for my features. I was planning on getting highlights in my hair in the spring so that I could get closer to the brown hair I had before, but after seeing "Oops" in a magazine and searched for reviews online, I was determined to just try it. I usually dont write reviews but I had to come back on here and let thoughs who havnt used "Oops" that it did wonders for me.. Not only is the black out but my hair is such a pretty golden dark brown.. My mom is a hair dresser and she automatically denied that this would work, told me I had to go to a hair salon to go lighter. Well she and I are both amazed and happy with the results. This stuff really is magic in a bottle...

I dyed my naturally light blonde hair dark brown quite a few times, over the course of about 4 months. During that time, one actually ended up turning my hair black! After the excitement of having dark hair wore off, I decided to use this product. After 20 minutes, I was really surprised to find that my hair was a LOT lighter! It did, however, have kind of a pinky hue to it.

Clearly I didn't rinse well enough, because after about two days my hair was darker, but only very slightly. A trip to the store and one box of light blonde hair color later, and I was back to normal! Great success!

I mistakenly selected "brown-black" dye as I was hoping to darken my hair to a more "chocolate" tone. I should have known by the word black in the title. My hair was BLACK - native-american or asian black. No way could I carry that off! Hubby drove 30 minutes one-way to Walgreens on a Sunday night to save me from myself. Well, Color Oops worked great - the black was gone! Unfortunately, under the advice of a hairdresser/friend, I turned around and put a light brown on just to "add some warmth" to my hair color. After just 5 minutes with light brown on, my hair was BLACK again! Hubby drove another 30 minutes one-way early Monday morning (god love him) for another box of Color Oops. It worked again, although it left my previously very healthy hair kind of strawlike and needing conditioning every day. Well worth it, though. I don't look like a gothic 40-something freak! I've recommended this product to my hairdresser friend and barber sister and everyone I know who does their own hair. I hope it works for you.

My hair was colored a cherry/chocolate color to mask the green of a previous faded ash blonde. The red faded fast and left me with a yucky muddy brownish green. Not good. I ran out and got the Xtra Strength. No, its not a great smell, but to me, perm solution is WORSE. You MUST FOLLOW the directions to the letter. I'm not sure what the lady who complained was trying to do with her grey hairs, but Color Oops takes out HAIR DYE.. it does not put your natural color "back" into the hair.. If you have bleached your hair, then dyed over it, Color Oops takes the DYE off, but cannot restore bleached hair. This stuff was a saviour for me.

This is a fantastic product if you USE IT CORRECTLY and more importantly, understand how it works so you can use it correctly.ColorOops shrinks the hair molecules, and you then have to rinse them out of your hair. When people comment about their hair darkening over the next few days, what happens is that they haven't rinsed out all of the color molecules and they gradually restore in size, making your hair dark again if you didn't get enough of them out.As long as you rinse your hair enough times (I do three or four times with a clarifying shampoo) it can take you up to your lightest previous color. Here are the things I've learned with color oops that'll help you get the most out of it:-wash your hair many times, thoroughly!!-do not use in a cold environment -use a shower cap to hold in heat and keep it from running everywhere. You can buy gloves, a showercap and conditioner at Walgreens.-it will make your hair porous so use a dye two shades lighter than your hair color, or if you're using a dye like Manic Panic, make sure you have a full bottle, as your hair will suck it up like a sponge.-use a deep conditioner afterwards to keep your hair feeling soft.Hope this helps future Color Oops purchasers! :)

I would like to say that I read a great deal of reviews before I purchased this product. The advice and outcomes that other people offered was very valable to me. I learned that I wasn't alone in making an OOPS and that I did have hope for a solution.

I have colored my long thick hair a reddish brown (very close to my natural color) for more than 10 years. I had an itch to change my color just a bit and used a temporary (28 day) light brown. I thought that it would just tone down the red a little. BOY, was I shocked to see my hair turn BLACK. I tried dish liquid and I used a conditioning dandruff shampoo. I washed every day several times and that took a little off the color(the suds were brown).

I thought all hope was lost and that I was doomed until I found this product. I used the extra strength because it had been more than 24 hours since I colored my hair. I can't believe that it WORKS as it said it would.

It did smell a little bit but not bad. After washing and using conditioner, the smell was gone. My hair is just a little bit lighter than normal. I was prepared to color it after I used the product (instructions say you can color it right after) but felt satisfied with how nice my hair looked and did not. I found that after all the trauma I had put my hair through, that it feels great. I did condition it well after the COLOR OOPS. I think it even feels and looks better.

This is a great product. If you compare this to your mistake and the other alternatives that you have like going to a salon (more chemicals and more hair trama), hats, wigs, or just living with it.... I think you will agree with me. It is worth a try.

The greatest advice is to read as many reviews as you can. There are great tips and out comes that is the most priceless part of this product.

Like many others here, I went from very light blonde to what I thought was light brown on a whim. It turned my hair an awful muddy gray-green. Horrible! I read the reviews here and decided to try this product. I used it according to directions -- with perhaps a little cheating on the rinse time -- and it did a fantastic job of restoring the blonde. It was muted and not quite as bright, but I could live with it. Problem was, the next morning I decided to brighten it up with another blonde application -- light golden blonde. I should've done a strand test. What happened immediately is that whatever brown was left in my hair got reactivated. Eeeek! It wasn't nearly as dark as before, but still muddy and greenish. So I ran out and got another box of Oops and this time followed the directions exactly. VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THIS!!

I'm blonde again but am worried about the next time I have to retouch roots. I think whatever brown is still in there will again be reactivated. What I'm planning on doing is lightening the roots, then using Oops again if I have to since it does leave my hair a lovely blonde in good condition.

Bottom line: Don't make mistakes with hair color!! LOL. But if you do, plan on having to correct it repeatedly until it grows out. This product works wonderfully, but it does have its limits. Don't take chances with your hair! I never will again.

After 5 years of dyeing my hair various shades of brown and red-brown, I wanted to get the best approximation of my dark warm brown hair as possible. The product I used turned my hair black, which is far too harsh with my skin; I definitely can't pull off straight-up black. I'd seen this product in a store before, and after reading these comments and looking at the box, I decided to try it. Yes, it smells, but not horribly. Yes, it's a slightly involved process, but we're talking about a chemical reaction here. It worked fine for me; all the black is gone, and I've been left with deep chocolate brown hair, which, near as I can remember, actually is my natural color! I have several dozen white hairs on the crown of my head, and surprisingly, they're brown like the rest of my hair, which was a nice bonus. My advice? Don't expect a total miracle; follow the directions very carefully; and if you have to dye it again the next day, deal with it. It did the job for me.

This product really works and doesn't damage your hair at all. I had black in my hair. It stripped all the hair color out without damaging my hair. Of course my hair underneath was a red color but I have dyed it so much that the all the hair color I put in did comprimise the natural color of my hair. But I had hair color on hand to dye it right after removing the black with color oops. I was so impressed with how silky my hair still was because last time I used a hair color remover it was bleach and it made my hair feel very dry.

The color came up as a brassy reddish brown on my gray and warm brown on my very dark brown hair. I cannot stand red hair. I purchase two packages of the extra strength Color Oops based on what I read regarding gray hair, which I wanted to restore. I tried one package and followed instruction to the tee: ensured room was not cold, distributed liquid throughout hair for even distribution for 20 minutes, rinsed hair then shampooed and rinsed for 5 minutes twice. It appears that the dye was mostly removed from my dark hair but the gray hair stayed the same. I am aftraid to try the 2nd package. I got suckered. This is definitely a gimmick!!!!!!!!!!!

I was unsuceessful. The only thing i achieved was blonde roots and black hair. I tried twice but got the same results. Frustrated, i started browsing and came across color oops. It was amazing!

A few days ago I colored my hair, which I do on a routine basis to cover grays. However I bought a brand I hadn't tried before and it came out WAY too dark. My normally dark brown hair was now matte black and UGLY. I really thought I was going to have to deal with it until it grew out, or go spend hundreds at the salon to maybe get it fixed. I have had such horrible experiences getting colored at the salon that I avoid that whenever possible. But I really didn't want to live with black hair that would show horrible roots. So here I am distraught about my bad dye job and I do a desperate internet search for solutions. [...] I finally decided there were enough people that had my same situation that loved the results I'd go ahead and give it a try. Really I was thinking I'd rather have clown orange than this! And if it doesn't work...well I'll shave my head and start fresh. ha! So I tried the product. And it worked fabulously! Now I won't say I would've chosen this color out of a line up, but it's a brownish, red, and MUCH better than the [*] black I was trying to get rid of. My roots however (note this if you cover grays when you color) are lighter than the rest because I should be gray there they went lighter. But it's really not all that noticeable, and when it starts to grow out I'll be able to dye it a color I like. (Taking note to go with something MUCH lighter this time especially after using this products like the directions state.)Many have mentioned the smell...it really wasn't that bad. I've used hair dyes much worse. It smelled like hair straightener to me. And it hasn't lingered. I followed the instructions to the TEE.Another thing to note is that when you are rinsing you will not see the color stripping away. This surprised me, I really expected to see the dye like when I rinse while dying it. Dumb? I thought it wasn't working and got really nervous while rinsing, but it worked somehow! So don't get nervous before you towel and blow dry. I also rinsed longer than the five minutes like it says to do for "longer or thicker hair". Is mine longer or thicker...than what? I don't know, so I just went ahead and rinsed longer. I don't know if the product dried my hair out, because I used a deep conditioner immediately after following all the directions. My hair looks shiny and healthy and full and hasn't looked damaged at all. Thanks to all of those who wrote reviews before this, you saved me from Elvira hair. Phew!

I used these on my two wefts of $300 human hair clip on extensions after I had gone too dark brown trying to look like Megan Fox in Transformers using a horrible Revlon color! In 20 minutes they reversed right back to the light golden brown I had bought them in and then I tried to put a light golden brown from Clairol which is known to be shades lighter than other color brands (and Oops makes hair pourous and says to says to use a light color with warm tones)and I put the color on LESS THAN 5 MINUTES and the extensions went back to halfway between the original color light golden brown and the muddy black brown to a nice chocolate brown. Now I need to re-dye my OWN HAIR AGAIN! I can't believe how fast and how MUCH of this very light hair color they absorbed and HOW DARK THE RESULT WAS! UGH! So just don't re-dye is my suggestion! They looked great before I put another color on them! VERY EVEN COLOR THOUGH and most of the dark color was deposited on the roots when I dyed my extensions. If you re-sye GO SIX SHADES LIGHTER or something! EEK!

My hair turned this awful ash/black color, very unrealistic and unnatural. What a mess. I used Color Oops within 24 hours according to the directions and it worked beautifully! I have very thick hair and was concerned that one box wouldn't be enough, but it was. It restored my hair to my original color and I couldn't be more pleased! It was very easy to use and unlike other reviews, I didn't find the smell too pungent. All in all, I am thrilled with the outcome.

Excellent Product!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros:
Easy To Use, Gentle, Great Color, Natural Look
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My hair is medium brown with gold blonde highlights. I get gray around my face and the crown of my head. I used a Loreal red brown permanent dye (Duh!) to cover my gray and I had really dark red brown 4 inch roots with medium brown/blond highligts below (very weird looking). Anyway.... this stuff is great! I left it on for 20 minutes and it lightened my hair to a beautiful shade AND my gray is all sparkly blond hi-lights!! It looks better than when I have my stylists do it!!!! Its smells like sulfur but who cares!

I have thick black hair and have been dying it red for the last 6 months or so. I was ready for a new look and wanted to dye my hair brown but I needed to remove the red and start fresh. I had seen this product in a magazine and was hesitant. I purchased it and when I washed my hair, no color was rinsing out so I thought, it didn't work. When I took the towel off my head, I was so amazed, I couldn't believe my eyes. I dyed it brown and it was easy and it works. The smell didn't bother me after I saw the results. I highly recommend it.

I had a hair dying disaster. I looked like a deranged leprechaun and I was afraid perspective employers would not take me seriously. I picked up a box Of Color Oops on sale at my local Walgreen's and it saved the day!!! I've been dying my hair for years and years and it took my hair almost back to my natural color.

It has hydrosulfite in it and the sulfur smell does linger in the air and your hair. I used the extra strength and left it in a little longer than the instructions said to, so the ends are dry, which you have to expect when you over process your hair, but a week of deep conditioning will fix that.

Make sure you have gloves and deep conditioner as it doesn't come with any.

I am profoundly pleased with this product, my hair was a deep purplish red, almost garnet, and now its back to natural blond, with one use! But other hair types may need a second treatment.

The smell wasn't as bad as I read the reviews to be. I bought this because I have been using semi- permenant dyes of medium brown on highlighted hair, which turned the highlighted strands black. I was looking to lighten. I tried a blonde color to bring my hair down in stages- it hardly budged. This product took me to a nice color which I could have left, there were NO splotches or missed patches, it was very evenly toned. I chose to go bold, and chose a dark ash blonde thinking it would give me a medium brown. I almost look like I did when I started, meaning the ash sure did take a little too well. But that was to be expected. I just didn't want to go too light and have mismatched roots. I wish there was a way to insert 'before' and 'after' pictures that way the public may know what individual results would be like. Either way, I am truly happy to have spent all of today reading everyone's reviews on Color Oops. Everyone is different, and you take your chances. I will recommend this to everyone, and I will also use it in the future. The only thing- I wish the second to last instruction was more specific about the 3rd and 4th wash and rinse, and also... they tell you on the paper IN the box to get a color with golden tones. I think that should be mentioned on the outside of the box, even though I read it on here and still chose to go ashy- knowing I was gonna have red tones due to my last dye and Irish genes! My color ended up being a light strawberry blonde with pale yellow to white highlights. It truly wasn't bad at all! With the right conditioners- your hair doesn't even smell funky.I must also mention I have been habitually dying my hair since I was 11- and I am almost 27- the most roots I have ever seen was when just highlighting= 2 1/2 - 3" roots.I will update you all in the next couple of days- cause how some people said their black strands mysteriously appeared. P.S. I actually got more hair dye all over the bathroom compared to the tiny bit that I got out of this runny solution. Plus I was scared the runny solution wasn't going to be enough, but it was amazing- I have a medium a-line bob- with sort of thickish hair.Oh, one more thing, I have a tattoo behind my ear, and was so afraid the color would "disolve" from the solution-- as it is a month old tattoo. So far it looks okay, but it's really hard to tell-- I'll update you on that as well. I was going to call their customer service number but a.) it was 7pm on Christmas Eve and b.) it was a toll number and I figured they could atleast have a toll free number.

Okay, I will admit what I did was not smart. I bought a coloring product that was supposed to wash out in 28 shampoos to color my daughters hair black for Halloween. She has beautiful natural red hair that gets her compliments everywhere she goes. It is vibrant, bright and stunning, but she wanted to change her hair to black for her costume. We tried the spray on colors but it was a messy nightmare so I told her we could just dye it with a temporary color and she could try out having black hair for a while to see how it changed things for her. It worked great! Her hair was jet black and she loved it. So here was the problem. The box had said that if we went much darker then her natural hair color it would take longer to wash out. Okay, so she has dark hair for two months instead of one. Big deal. Well it had been six weeks and her hair had faded only slightly. Instead of jet black, it was black with a slightly red hue and bright red roots. I began to realize that this color was not going to wash out so I started looking for ways to fix this mess. That's when I found color oops and thought our prayers had been answered. After reading all the reviews I figured the worst that could happen would be that her hair might not be the same exact color of red when we got done. So we tried it. It lightened her hair, but only slightly so that it became a kind of reddish chocolate brown with a little less noticeable bright red roots. It did leave her hair in good condition though so I told her we could try it again in a couple of days. Over that couple of days I am not sure if I imagined it but it seemed as if her hair was darkening again. I was noticing her roots more and more. Well tonight we tried the product again and now her hair is back to the reddish chocolate brown and once again the roots are less noticeable but still present. I can't say the product doesn't work at all, but it sure didn't have much effect on this darned semi-permanent color. Who would've thought that a color that supposedly washes out would be so hard to get rid of? I just wish we could have been one of the lucky ones on here because I really miss my daughters long, gorgeous red hair.

I am in love with this product!!! It saved my hair! I usually get my hair done at a chi-chi salon but after finals I felt frisky and decided to dye my own hair dark brown (I'm usually a light-medium golden brown). I bought a dye that was on sale (DO NOT BUY REVLON!). I came home, gave it a go and when I popped out of the shower and looked in the mirror I was DISMAYED. My locks had turned BLUE-BLACK!!! I thought to myself, 'my mom's going to KILL me when she see me at Christmas' and 'if Angelina Jolie can do it...'. I spent the next hour and a half trying to work with it. I tried styling it, changing my make-up. I really tried. I realized it was a lost cause and looked up "color corrector" online. I found Oops and drove to the store at 3am. It's crazy. I know. But I HAD too. My mom would be SO mad and it looked horrible. ANYWAY. The product worked! And it worked so quickly!!! I'm really glad I found it. Now I know I can try to dye my hair and I can always fix my mistakes!

I'm an adventerous hair-dyer. I change my color usually every month. I recently had dyed a large portion of my hair a very dark burgundy (over already dark brown colored hair), and bleached the front and undersides and colored it a very shocking "stop sign" red. After a month and half the brilliant red began to fade into a terrible mix of orange and pink. And I was ready for a change anyhow so I bought Color Oops to assist in the process.

Even though it states that it does not work on rebellious colors (such as greens, purples, pinks, etc.) it actually did remove about 75% of the color completely and significally lightened what remained near the roots. As for the standard dye job that took up 75% of my hair, the burgundy was completely removed (aside from a tint of red at the crown) and a good portion of the brunette underneath was taken out as well.

Thus it left me with enough of a change to my hair color to bleach the darker portions to match the existing bleached areas.

My only suggestions:

1. Don't use this product if you have unrealistic expectations. The chances of completely regaining your natural color (especially if you have multiple layers of dye) are slim to none, so be prepared to recolor after you're finished.

2. It smells, extremely bad. Unless you enjoy the smell of raotting oranges and deviled eggs you're not exactly in for a treat.

3. If you're trying to get rid of more off the wall colors, such as something by ManicPanic or SpecialEffects brands, be patient and let it wash out as much as it will before you use this product to ensure best results.

4. Invest in a high quality conditioner before you actually use this product. I typically save the conditioner tubes from boxes of hair dye so that I always have something good lying around. But intensive conditioning after use is essential. Trust me, your "run of mill" conditioner is NOT going to cut it. Use the strongest salon-quality conditioner you can afford. I know its expensive, but you'll need it!

Ok here is the truth.....
The color opps worked ok On the top of my head. down where my hair must be processed a bit more it didnt take any color out and I was rejected from about every salon in town to try to fix my hair back. : /

The color on top is still dark.. it did remove some of it, left it feeling just dryier and hair folicle shrunken down in general. The thickness I once had isnt quite there anymore.. just feels diffrent. even after two intense conditings afterwards.
Goto the beauty supply see what they have instead... just might work better in general..

I did this product two times. wasnt that great..
I probably wouldve been better off going to the salon having them do it.. problem is most salons laugh you right out the door....

The only problem, everyday my hair seemed to slowly start getting darker. Within a few days my hair was black again. I thought, maybe you need to dye your hair after using the product to make it permanent, so I tried the product one more time. It once again got the black out, but as soon as I tried dying it a light auburn color my hair turned pitch black again. I spent all that money on the product and I am right back where I started. You are better off saving your money.

I had a bit of a run-in with some very dark hair dye one night in a spur of the moment kind of decision and, well, I ended up with nearly black hair, which was way too ark for my fair complexion. I was miserable, so I did all the research I could to get rid of the color. I tried tide, I tried dawn, but nothing worked. I came upon this product and was kind of hesitant to try because it would just be putting more chemicals in my hair. However, I was so sick of the dark color that I bought Color Oops. However, after washing my hair, I was so excited to see my normal come back! The end result was a tad darker and a tad redder than my normal dark blonde/ light brown hair, but I almost love this color more than my natural color.

I had a horrible salon job. She put a reddish color and it only colored my roots. So I had my old dark brown color and new highligts as well. It was so ugly. I went back to have her "fix" it. But it was exactly the same. She, by the way, was defensive and mad I came back. Anyway, I decided I would try to fix it myself. And it turned out worse. I tried again today and it was worse than before. It turned purple, only on the roots. Ugh! Can I get a break already! So I research on some kind of color restorer and came across color oops. I use it and follow the directions and my hair turned lighter and the roots were orange. After reading about other comments, I really didn't think my hair would turn orange. I naturally have a dark brown hair. But the red and purples were gone. Alot of the dark dye was still there. But since it was okay to dye again, I did and yes it's true, the hair just drinks up the dye. I took the recommendation of getting a lighter shade, and still my hair is very dark. But I would rather have it this way then the roots being a different color. I think it works alright. I did have the back up plan of dyeing my hair after the color oops because I was skeptic. So glad I did. It's going to be a case by case situation. I do not want to dye my hair anymore. My scalp hurts from all the chemicals. The smell isn't so bad. I rinsed a long time cause my hair is thick and color was still coming out after 20 minutes of rinsing. Bottom line....go with a natural shade when dyeing your hair. Then you'll avoid these situations.

...it does a great job of tweaking a somewhat-too-dark tint. I had used a mix of light and medium brown haircolor on my naturally dark blonde hair and while I loved it for a while, it soon became too much maintenance. So, I decided to try this product and see if it would remove the color. It does smell pretty strong while it's working, but the smell will go away after a few washings at most. I used a much lighter blonde color than I normally would have chosen when I recolored my hair and I'm glad I did because my hair grabbed a LOT of color. As for the people complaining about the orange tint it leaves you with, remember YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO USE THIS BEFORE YOU RE-COLOR, SO DO NOT EXPECT TO SEE YOUR NATURAL HAIRCOLOR!!! After I used this I waited 24 hours before re-coloring. I'm glad I did because even though the orange tint wasn't attractive, I'm sure I saved my hair from a lot of damage. I'm not sure I would try to, say, pull black dye from platinum hair with this, but if you're realistic you can get good results with this product.

I have dyed my hair black about 6 times now throughout the months and I am ready to change it back to my original color of brown so I can dye it a reddish color. This product did just that. It took all of my black out of my hair and left me with a light reddish brown. I dyed it with a medium red brown and it turned my hair black again! I went to buy another bottle of oops and again it took the black out leaving me with a light brown red. I dyed it again and it is still not the color I want it to be. This is my fault though. I knew my hair would be pourous and I used a red when I should of used a dark blonde to get my hair brown. My best advice to you would be to buy a shade that is very very light. I do not want to be blonde cause it would not go with my skin tone, but that is what I need to buy to acheive a light brown. SO buy light colors. Again, THIS PRODUCT IS WONDERFUL!!!!!!!

YOU MUST TRY THIS PRODUCT. This is the first comment I have ever written about a product. I had a beautiful natural medium blonde hair color throughout the summer. I waited until we closed the pool before I dyed it to my "winter brown" color using Loreal Light Irredescient Brown. But, this time, it turned a brassy red/brown color. So, I decided to put a little darker, ash color on it to tone down the red, and brassiness, WRONG> It turned dark purple red. It was hidious. I tried to put some highlights in it to lighten it some, but it just looked more red/brassy. I went online, did the lemon juice/conditioner thing, it lightened it some, but did not take away the purple/brassiness. I was going to to One and Only color remover, but after reading about it online, it seemed difficult. Then I found the website about color oops. I read all mornin, and then went to [@] and got it. I did the strand test to see how it would look, was so scared it would turn blonde/orange, but the strand looked good. So, I followed instructions to the letter, but kept the towel on my head after it was done. I was still scared to look, not believing it would work. When I took off the towel, I said, "thank you God for allowing this product to be made." The red/purple/brassiness is gone. It is back to the medium blonde color I had, just alittle darker. I am going to wait about 2 weeks to see if the color changes at all, then I bought a Clairol No Brassiness medium blonde hair color that should make my hair a dark blonde/light brown. I am more than pleased. Really, you should try it. The smell is minor, less than a perm, and the fact that it can fix mistakes like permanent hair color is just amazing! Don't Give up hope, This product works, but make sure you follow the directions to the letter! Remember, it is for those of us who put hair color too DARK on our hair, not bleached it. Good luck!

I was a bit disapointed and now I have to go back and color my hair to even out everything.

I'd second using a lighter haircolor (after Color Oops) than you'd normally choose because the hair will drink in the new color. I chose dark beige blonde and it came out a kind of brown, but I can live with this color, at least.

When people said it smelled bad, I thought that was during application. The smell isn't bad during application. However, my hair still stinks after many, many shampoos. I did it yesterday - I hope the smell doesn't last a week. It seems like the smell diminishes after shampooing and then starts to come back. I wish there was something I could use to get the smell out without damaging the new color. I hope I never have to go through this again.

I have been dying my hair black for the past three years. Lately, I've been wanting to change it to light brown. I went to the salon hoping to get it bleached and lightened. I spent $125 and my black hair color DIDN'T bleach. Then three weeks later, I went to a different salon and the lady there tried to use a "Pravana" hair color remover and it still didn't work. My black hair color was still there and I spent another $115. Finally, after reading all these reviews about "Color Oops," I decided to buy it. This product works great!! With one box, all my black hair color was gone. It only took 20 mins and the smell wasn't bad at all.

Well my hair is naturally red. For some stupid mistake I dyed my hair black. When the black started to come out I had a red line down the center of my head. I saw the ad in the paper and I said hey I might try this. I put it in and before I washed it out I looked in the mirror and my hair was still black...... but when I washed it, it was back to my origanal color. My hair was soft. I loved it. The day after I recognized that my hair was getting darker. Well it's been 2 days since I used the color oops and I'm back where I started. A red line down the middle of my head.

About a month ago I decided that I wanted to dye my hair a color called soft black. Figuring it was a brown/black I went ahead with it. 20 minutes later my hair was jet black. I have pretty fair skin and I looked terrible. Like Elvira terrible. I tried and tried to get used to it figured it would fade with time. Never did. Finally I did a search and found color oops. Read about 200 reviews only 2 of which were bad. After using color oops I now have a copper colored mane! I couldn't believe it really worked, and my hair feels fine. It really didn't smell all that bad either, just like strong hair dye.

Like many of you, I also had a dye job gone wrong! I tried to dye my hair dark brown and it turned out jet black! I also looked "gothic" and was nearly in tears over it!!! I did hours of research on the internet about how to get rid of the color...I found remedies such as Prell shampoo, dandruff shampoo, and even Dawn dish soap....I went to [...] to pick up the above products and decided to also grab Color Oops as a "last resort". I came home, tried the different soaps and shampoos and none worked. So I tried the Color Oops. When I got out of the shower I woudln't even look in the mirror b/c I was so scared it hadn't worked. I even blow dried my hair in the dark scared to see jet black hair again.....I finally turned the lights on and the black was GONE!!!!! I now have a very pretty medium brown with a slight reddish tone. THIS PRODUCT WORKS AND IS WONDERFUL!!! I highly highly highly recomend it!!!

I had layers upon layers of dye on my hair. My last one was done at a salon. My hair was filled with copper and dyed medium brown. I dyed it a week later with deepest brown and got black. Elvis black! After another week of using every homemade remedie to lighten it up and no luck, I used oops. It came out a light reddish brown. Pretty color but I wanted less red. So I used a light golden brown over it. Once again black. The next DAY...I oopsed again. Still no damage. Now it lightened to a light to med. brown red. The color I want to achieve now has to be done by using a color 2 shades lighter then light brown. over all, this color is not bad. I am impressed. the smell is sooo bad, i would do it outside with a mirror and a hose next time. my family could not breathe in the house even with doors open. and unfortunitly your hair reeks for awhile no matter what. oh well, at least it is not elvis black anymore!!!

Like many reviews before me, I was tired of dying my hair strawberry blonde, and wanted to go for a shade closer to my own. I chose dark brown / natural black, thinking it would come out a little lighter, with all the blonde & hilights I had, but it came out JET BLACK. I looked goth, like Morticia. So about 36 hrs later I bought oops, and followed the direction to a T. The smell was not offensive to me, maybe becuase I did it outside. Also, my hair did not smell either. It does dry out your hair a little, but nothing a deep conditioning can't fix. My hair is now as close to my natural color as ever, a meduim brown with reddish in it. I can't be happier. I probably won't even dye it. This has been a true lifesaver.

I read all of the comments on this site and I was still debating whether to use it or not. I had medium brown hair with blond highlights. Unfortunately, I decided to color my hair myself and it turned dark brown almost black. The next day I put in the multi-tonal highlights but the dark color did not even show them. I was so upset and I didnt know what to do. I read these comments and still wondered, will it work on my hair, will my hair be ruined, will it turn orange. I decided to try Color Oops deep conditioning. I read the directions about 5 times and then started the process. I was nervous the entire 20 minutes that had it on. To my shock and disbelief all the dark brown color left my hair. However, what was left were my old outgrown highlights and my new highlights that were unnoticeable before. This product really works, I am glad I tried it.

I highly reacomend this awsome product. I wanted to die my light strawberry blond hair to a dark brown about two days ago but it ended up coming out completely jet, gothic black. It was so horrible. Everyone was calling me emo. Then my grandma found oops on the internet and we decided to try it. We followed the directions perfectly . My hair came out a natural looking brown with warm red highligts. This was exactly what i wanted and hoped for. For those of you who have dissed this product you probably had not followed directions properly. Thank you oops. Your a life saver. Plus you saved us a ton of money so we would not have to go get my hair stripped at the salon and then died again! I'm a true beliver. Ps those of you who want to go darker when light you should go two shades lighter than you want cause you don't want it to turn out completely black.

USE CAUTION

OK ladies, I have done the research and here are the basics on how to AVOID DISASTER...

This product REMOVES DYE that has been added to your hair. It CANNOT REVERSE THE LIGHTENING PROCESS which has removed the dye already. Also, if you have lightened your hair past your natural color, when you use this is will take your hair to the LIGHTEST is has been, which may be even lighter than your natural color. Your natural color is removed and/or damaged when you dye it, so don't expect your natural color exactly even if you've only gone darker.

Also, blondes and light browns are the most susceptible to ending up ORANGE. You can help predict if your hair will be orange... When you dye your hair, it removes the base color, but you still have underlying pigment. These are yellow, orange, red shades that effect your base color (blonde/brown/black). Then you add new color. When you use this product it removes the color but can leave you with your own pigment and without the color, hence the blondish orange. You can find articles, search "haircolor basics" and read more, look for a color wheel to help. Be aware of basic color mixing.

To CORRECT ORANGE: The opposite of orange is blue, so go for an ashy blue color when left with that orange color. Most blonde shades don't have enough blue in them to have this effect, so if you come up orange and blonde, you may need to go for a light brown or talk to a professional about correction. DO NOT USE WARM COLORS. You will just add more brassy tones and come out like Ronald McDonald. Use a blueish tone and you will come out in the middle. DON'T BELIEVE THE BOX!!!

I read the rave reviews, but still bought this product with caution... I have to say, however, that my expectations were truly surpassed. Not only did it get out the recent "oops" haircolor, but it removed the three month old, bright red (faded to pink) "Sturgis Streaks" I had! The end result is an awesome color and my hair doesn't feel at all rough and/or damaged. The only drawback to this seems to be the smell of it - not that great, but tolerable for the results.
I highly recommend this product.

I have naturally espresso colored hair. I accidentally died it blue/black. I hated it because I looked gothic. I tried this product and my hair is back to its old color, but with more red highlights. It says not to use if you have light hair! And my hair may feel a little dry, but no worse than a bad hair day. There's no noticeable "damage". It does smell though. Its really faint after a week already, but SO worth it. It kind of resembles a stinky perm smell.

I was feeling mixed about the reviews but thought I would give it a shot. I dyed my hair black a month ago and hated it. I kept dying it lighter colors hoping for it to lighten but nothing happened. I learned that nothing was going to change itafter a few times of no result. I went to walgreens bought it and hoped for the best. After following the directions carefully I dried my hair and was amazed. It was a beautiful carmel brown color. I had bought semi-permanent dye to tone it but never had to use it. I am one of the lucky ones but I bet it depends on the color of your hair. The only problem is that my hair smells still. I hope it goes away the next time I wash it. It was gentle on my hair and I think everyone should try it, what harm can it do?

Wow, this product saved me. Today I used a different brand of dark blonde color and wasn't satisfied with the color result. Same Manufacturer but different brand of color made my hair bland looking and I wanted more of a rich, vibrant color. Slipped out to the drug store, saw Color Oops, the price was right so I thought I'd purchase. Went on line and looked at the reviews before I used the product to see what others had to say. 98% of the reviews were good. Used the product and I must say, the color is warm and rich and my hair feels healthy. I definitely would not hesitate to recommend this product. I was going to recolor, but my hubby and I are so happy with this color that I'm holding off. The only bad part is that its very doubtful that I'll ever get this color again. Ugh! Thanks Color Oops, great product!!!

I died my hair about two weeks ago, and it came out black! It was a darker color than I normally go with, but this was too dark. After two weeks of washing with Head and Shoulders I was desperate. I read all the positive reviews on this product and decided to give it a shot.

I read the instructions carefully as told in the other reviews and half an hour later, I had my hair back. It is maybe a little more orangey red than brown, but waaaaay better than black. It was good enough that I decided I did not need to dye my hair right away again(no gray hairs showing) and give my a hair a break.

If you have dyed your hair darker than you like then this is for you. It did smell like rotten eggs and lemon juice (you know, like the old perms), but it did not last more than one day, and no one else is the house mentioned the smell.

I used this product and the harshness of the black came out. I was going to redye, but the color that I was left with was so close to what I wanted originally, that I decided to wait to redye! The only thing that I didn't like was that the top of my hair is slightly lighter than my ends, but not drastically so. I recommend using this product. Just FOLLOW DIRECTIONS- and don't mind rinsing for a long time if needed!

Like almost everyone else, I have been coloring for years (15+) and ended up going from a honey blonde to dark brown, almost black. This happened gradually over many years. I was thinking that I was pretty much stuck with it unless I wanted to bleach it out. My daughter heard about Color Oops from a friend. My daughter used it and she was able to get most of the dark color out of her hair using 2 boxes (2 weeks in between) and get it back to blonde after a bit of a haircut, so I was inspired. I have used 6 boxes over the past month (yes - 6)and now have a light brownish color with a red/yellow tint (I'm told that it looks like dark golden blonde with low lights). I think that in my case, the color is hard to remove because my hair is very fine and curly which makes it very porous so it really grabbed the color over the years. Despite using Oops so often, it left my hair in nice condition (after conditioning it). I can confirm that the condition of my hair is getting better because my shoulder-length ringlet curls are bouncier, more defined and respond to curling creme better than ever. I really want to go to back to my natural blonde color so I'm going to color it this weekend. My roots are now very light (blonde/yellow with white/gray) so I am going to try an 8V shade on the roots only and a 10V on the rest, hoping that I get one color. Then going forward, only touch up the roots. If this doesn't work - no fear, I'll be Oopsing again! One tip - I divided each box into two applications since I noticed with the first box that the activation period was fairly short. I had my husband help, he mixed up half of the solutions and carefully applied Oops to half of my head, concentrating on the darker areas. Once the bottle was empty, he mixed up the remaining solutions and did the other side. This seems to give it a bit more punch if you need it. Who cares if it stinks a bit, just wash/rinse your hair 10 times like I did and use a nice smelling conditioner! If you use a towel or smock while applying it, put it right in the washer after taking it off, this helps to minimize the smell in your house. Also reclosing the empty bottles before discarding them will help.

I had dyed my hair black & was tired of it. I read about this product in a magazine & decided to try it.

As I read in other reviews on here, the product does stink to high heaven, but hair my didn't really stink - even the next day - I'm guessing because I used a scented shampoo & conditioner when I rinsed out. Anyway, it removed at least the black & maybe a few layers of the different dark browns I had dyed before the black. I was left with a reddish-medium brown (my hair has natural red tones to it). It definitely removed the color without damaging my hair. I had noticed when I first started rinsing out, my hair wasn't brittle & breaking off or anything crazy like that.

I also noticed in a few reviews - people complaining about it not taking out lighter colors; the amount of time it took to work; & the amount of time it took to rinse out. The box specifically says that it is intended for dark colors; that, once the product is on your hair, it needs to sit for 20 minutes before rinsing; & when u start to rinse, you should rinse for at least 5 minutes... So, if your that unhappy with your DARK hair color & want it removed, then read the directions first, & don't complain about how long it takes to rinse your hair out, because if your hair is really that bad, it's worth the 25 minutes to make your hair look better.

I dye my a lot. I mean A LOT. I would definitely recommend this to someone else. & I will definitely use this in the future (if I need to...)

HAPPY HAIR DYING!

This stuff is great! I've been coloring my own hair for many years, a medium reddish brown color. The ends of my hair started to get darker than the rest, due to over-coloring. Once the ends of your hair get to dark, no color job will fix that. I read the positive reviews on this product and gave it a try. It took all of the color out of my hair and brought it to a dark blonde with a hint of orange (slightly lighter than my natural color.) I know the orange tint was due to all the red I had put in with previous color jobs. BUT my hair was in good enough condition to re-dye immediately. My hair was slightly dry after using Oops, but nothing a good conditioner couldn't fix. My new color (medium reddish brown) took quickly and came out even and beautiful. Yes, it smells like rotten eggs, but after a few washes, it's totally gone. Read the directions, and follow them VERY carefully.
