This hot cereal is freshly milled from the finest whole grain wheat. It's high in fiber and an excellent source of protein. When cooked, it's a superb ingredient for baked goods, pilafs, casseroles or stuffing that adds fiber and texture.
Diets rich in whole grain foods and other plant foods low in total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers.
For a delicious and nutritious hot breakfast cereal, bring 3 cups water and 1/2 teaspoon salt to a boil. Add 1 cup cracked wheat and turn heat down. Cover and cook for10 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with milk and honey. Makes enough for 4. Add almost any fruit or nuts. Microwave instructions: In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup cracked wheat, and 3/4 cup water. Cover and microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes. Makes 1 serving. Keeps best refrigerated or frozen.
