Easy to use*. Wash your hands before unwrapping the filter. 1. Soak new filter for 15 minute. 2. Insert filter into reservoir. 3. Add cold tap water. 4. Replace filter every 40 gallons or two months. See user's guide for detailed instructions. It is normal for carbon dust to appear in your first two pitchers. Discard this water or use it to water plants. For best results, store the Brita® pitcher in your refrigerator or out of direct sunlight. The contaminants or other substances removed or reduced by this water treatment device are not necessarily in all user's water. Fresh filter equals fresher water. Replace filter every 40 gallons (about 2 months for the average family). Filter replacement is essential for product to perform as represented.
