The Importance of Screening for Glucose and Ketones in Urine.
When there is too much sugar (glucose) or ketones (products that result when fat breaks down in the body) in the blood, it spills over into the urine.  Fasting, starvation diets, or diabetes may cause ketones in the urine.  Ketones and glucose in the urine are not normal and could be a sign of illness, stress, or poor diabetes control.  The presence of ketones or glucose in the urine may mean you need medical attention.

Reagent Composition for Each Urine Test Strip:

• Upper Zone Glucose:  Tetramethylbenzidine 56.0 ug/cm2, Glucose oxidase (aspergillus niger) 2.6 U/cm2, Peroxidase (horseradish) 20.0 U/cm2, Buffer 203.5 ug/cm2, Non-reactive ingredients 3.8mg/cm2
• Lower Zone Glucose:  Tetramethylbenzidine 52.5 ug/cm2, Glucose oxidase (Aspergillus niger) 5.0 U/cm2, Peroxidase (horseradish) 9.0 U/cm2, Buffer 164.7 ug/cm2, Non-reactive ingredients 3.2 mg/cm2
• Ketones:  Sodium nitroprusside 157.2 ug/cm2, Glycine 4.2 mg/cm2, Buffer 10.9 mg/cm2, Non-reactive ingredients 672.2 ug/cm2
