Rated 4 out of 5Â by mnbob1 Connects to the iPhone without cables
I was looking at interface cables for my existing meter but the cost was higher than for a new meter and the app was lacking. I saw this meter for $4.99 after coupon and decided to give it a try.
I love the size and I really like the simplicity of the app. At first I was concerned about the accuracy of the meter but I made the mistake that many do, I tested two meters with the same drop of blood. After talking to BGStar support they explained that the same drop of blood won't give the same results even on the same meter. I tried it again but using two different sites and the meters consistently were within about 5-7 points of each other. I tend to run a bit hypo and the readings were almost exact the lower my readings went. It was only when the readings were high that I noticed the largest variances.
My biggest complaint is that the strips are way over priced. They are made by AgaMatrix who also makes the meter for Sanofi. AgaMatrix makes the exact same strips for another meter that they OEM for Target, Walmart, and others. The difference is that the notch in those strips is cut deeper making them useless in the iBGStar. They cost about $20 per box of 50 strips. If you have insurance that will cover the cost of the BGStar strips and have an iPhone, this is a great little portable meter. Plus if you register it by the end of the month they will send you a case for your iPhone and meter to fit into nicely.

I have had this meter for about a year and it works great. I do think it does read a little high, about 10-20 points. The app is great and makes tracking easy. I can send all my tests to the doc with just a push of a button.

You might read about accuracy but after reading about the technology and real clinical trials used to get this approved in the USA and in the EU, i will say to people, maybe your old meter was inaccurate this entire time and this is device is a better estimation of your sugar. As a pharmacist, i have recommended this and will continue to use it myself. Read about it in pubmed and not go by just the reviews. Even with your meter, the variance can be wide, 10% or more, that can be a huge depending on how high your sugars are.
Based on my A1C the readings from this meter are correct. I have gotten multiple consistent results but times when i have had off reading, i can say it was because of operator error.
Remember you can even get different readings from the same sample of blood. Even a lab will tell you that there is a variance and that you might not get the same results. Your blood sugars constantly change and change from one minute to the next based on just plain body functions.
All meters will give you an estimate of your blood sugars at that point in time.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by Diabetic user Great idea but not accurate
I've been a diabetic for awhile now and thought that the idea of my readings being automatically saved into new technology would be easier to track. It is and I like the software, but the meter itself has consistantly been reading high by around 20 points as compared to my older meter and a couple of other brands of meters. I find the quality to be excellent but am just frustrated that it reads higher than my normal point trend is.

Great deal but with it limited to Apple products totally useless. Come on, where is the Android or Windows compatibility? Not all diabetics use iPhone!!

Rated 2 out of 5Â by BTexas Great Idea, Bad Product
So when I first got the iBG Star I loved it. It was small, portable, and had awesome graphics. It worked with the iPhone great. Then after three weeks, it broke. I called customer service and they sent another. Then a few weeks went by, and then the connector on my iPhone broke. This was due to the iBG star. Then it happened again. Then my iBG star broke again. Now I am on my 3rd iBG star about 5 months after the first and my iPhone wont recognize it when I connect it.
Serious issues with this product when the idea is amazing.
