As long as you can see the bugs and rodents and can chuck this device at them and hit them, then they seem to stay away, If you plug it in and wait for it to work, get ready for more rodents to show up to hear the new sounds coming from your home. I found this device worked great as long as I could throw the device at one of them and hit them, then they seemed to stay away for a while.
