Near East® Taboule provides bulgur wheat and a blend of mint, parsley and garlic; you add a fresh tomato, lemon juice and olive oil to crat this cool and refreshing authentic salad. Serve it as a delicious alternative to traditional side dishes at your next picnic or barbeque or as a light meal anytime.
1. In large bowl, combine wheat and contents of spice sack. Stir in 1 cup boiling water. Cover; let stand 30 minutes in refrigerator.
2. Stir in 1 cup chopped fresh tomato (about 1 large), 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (For tarter lemon flavor, increase lemon juice to 2 tablespoons) and 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil; mix well.
3. Cover, chill 1 hour or overnight. Toss well before serving on a bed of lettuce. Makes 3-3/4 cups. For a creative twist, add one of the following to step 2 in preparation directions: 1 cup shredded carrot; 1 cup chopped red or green bell pepper; 1/2 cup ripe black olives; 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil; 1 cup chopped cucumber.
