Rated 5 out of 5 by User Great for scrabbling stage This is basically neosporin for cold sores. (Do NOT try actual neosporin; I learned that the hard way.) I tried this product AFTER my cold sore was well into the scrabbling/healing phase and it did exactly what it said: moisturized and softened the scab. It also reduced the redness of two other cold sores that had completely closed up/healed but were till red and a bit dry. I rubbed it in with a qtip (careful not to spread into other areas), then after rubbing it in globbed on another layer and covered with a band aid. It seriously improved my cold sore and newly formed scars overnight. It has been a miracle, as before, even though my cold sores had majorly improved, they looked terrible and crusty with makeup. And I certainly wasn't about to go to work without makeup...I don't care what they say. I don't know how well it would work for purposes of speeding the healing time for a newly formed cold sore, and probably wouldn't risk it if Abreva works for you. The numbing effect was definitely stronger than Abreva and really helped. October 7, 2012
