This pill just passes through your body. It never dissolves. If you don't believe me try putting in in water and see how long it takes to dissolve. I under stand that it is different the stomach acid but it will not dissolve. You are throwing away your money. Use another brand. There are many that are better.

Great slow release product to help elevate good cholesterol! Taken once daily. Easy to swallow, and easy on the stomach. Excellent option for those who have issues with their cholesterol. Talk to your physician to see if this product is right for you!

The niacin is slowly and constantly secreted out of the polygel as it passes through your intestines. The manufacturer of Slo Niacin (UPSHER-SMITH) says: "The inactive matrix of the tablet is not absorbed any may be excreted intact in the stool." So, you don't have to worry that the niacin is just getting lost down the toilet, even if it looks like the tablets are just going through you. Also, if you are bothered by flushing, taking an aspirin or ibuprofen tablet will quickly stop the flush. I'm using Slo Niacin, fish oil, folic acid, and Vitamin D, because I'm one of those people who get bad muscle pains and weakness when I use statins.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by rcw HDL is up. At last!
Prescription fish oil (Lovaza)wouldn't work.
Prescription niacin (Niaspan) didn't seem to work for me either.
But I really needed to get my HDL up. So I tried Slo-niacin and got flushing. Not fun. So I cut my dosage to 125mg, later raised it to 250 and after a few weeks got up to 500mg. AND IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING. For the first time in recorded history my HDL is 40, not great, but not subnormal.

On doctor's instructions, taking 1 caplet twice a day. I chose this for two reasons. First, it contains the active ingredient nicotinic acid, which is used in controlling cholesterol and which other "flush free" niacin supplements do NOT have. Second, the time-release feature is very effective in reducing (for me, nearly completely eliminating) the flush that niacin causes.
