The Nestle® Toll House® tradition began in the 1930's at the Toll House Inn in Whitman, MA.  Here proprietor Ruth Wakefield was known for her rich, indulgent desserts.  While experimenting one day, she broke a bar of Nestle® Semi-Sweet Chocolate into bits and added them to her cookie dough.  The Toll House® Cookie was born!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Instructions:  For one batch you will use:  Cookie Mix with Nestle® Toll House® Morsels.  Ingredients to Add:  1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, softened.  1 large egg.  1 tablespoon water.  Preheat oven to 375°F.  Beat butter in large mixer bowl until creamy.  Add cookie mix slowly, mix well.  Add egg and water; beat well to form dough.  Drop by rounded teaspoon onto un greased baking sheets.  Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.  Remove from over.  Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes;  remove to wire racks quickly to cool completely.  Chocolate Chip Pan Cookie or Bar Instructions:  Preheat oven to 350°F.  Prepare dough as stated above.  Grease baking pan.  Spread dough into pan. For Pan Cookie (13 x 9 inch pan):  Bake 15 to 20 minutes.  For Bar (8 x 8 inch pan):  Bake 30 to 35 minutes.  Pan Cookie or Bar is done when top is golden brown and wooded pick inserted in center comes out clean.  Cool completely in pan on wire rack.  Store tightly covered.  High Altitude Instructions (3,500 to 6,000 ft.):  Add 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour with mix and increase water by 1 tablespoon for a total of 2 tablespoons of water added with the egg.  Bake time for Cookies is 10 to 13 minutes.  Pan cookie 20 to 22 minutes;  Bar 30-32 minutes.
