I have used this product for many years to help me sleep. This is not a sleeping pill. I cannot take two pills, as recommended. It makes me very hyper (one of the side effects). I have narrowed it down to half a mini-caplet, which works very well for me.

i was taking the other stuff, the generic version of unisom, but after a couple months, that stopped having the quick knockout effect and hardly worked at all, and worse, the generic unisom seemed to have a delayed effect as I slept, meaning it was really hard to get up the next day or I would feel like I needed to sleep like 12 hours to feel ok enough to drive or have my head clear enough to watch kids, etc. I think people who are still feeling really out of it when they are supposed to get up should try taking it earlier, then it will have a chance to wear off over a longer period of time. People like me who metabolize things slowly, things can take a longer time to work, and then a longer time to go through you.
This stuff, the main ingredient being dyphenhydramine is the same stuff they use in Benadryl and some motion sickness meds, it makes you drowsy but doesn't give you the quick knockout like the other stuff does (short term for me anyway). With this stuff, sometimes all it takes is one, 2 if I have had coffee in the evening.
This stuff seems slower acting and some people metabolize these things slower, (like it takes a while before you feel it- everyone is different) so if you don't have to drive but want to go to bed early, take it a little earlier than right at bedtime, like an hour before. If you aren't going to drive and don't need to be up and alert, just take it earlier , even an hour to 1.5 hours from when you want to actually sleep.
This stuff is not like prescription sleep stuff, so don't expect it to have that same effect. It's supposed to walk you into sleep down a path, not push you over a cliff! This stuff also helps with my sleeping because of mild ot moderate springtime allergies, sneezing hay fever and so on, and usually continues to work the next day after I take it, which is a good side effect.
Important to always remember, read the directions about dosage, drug interactions and alcohol warnings.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by MobMed Worked ok, but not as I was hoping.
Purchased these a few weeks ago because I just could not fall asleep and when I finally did fall asleep, I could not stay asleep.
I have tried other sleeping pills before (Walgreens brand with pain reliever) and they seemed to work well, so I was glad to find these without any pain reliever because I didn't really need it.
Usually I would take 1-2 of these pills about 1-1.5 hours before I was planning on going to bed. Their effect varied and sometimes I wasn't tired at all...and others I felt like I was going to pass out. Regardless of when the drug actually kicked in, I was able to fall asleep rather quickly.
The quality of the sleep I received also varied. Sometimes, I would sleep the whole night through - remember my dreams and feel totally rested the following day. Other nights, I would wake up, toss and turn and not remember my dreams...which I guess is an indication that I was not able to fall into a deep sleep. And of course, after those restless nights, it was a bear to get out of bed the next morning.
I will probably try another brand the next time around because of the inconsistency in the performance of this medication.
