What are the side effects of Xenadrine?
Xenadrine® RFA-1 is an herbal dietary supplement promoted as a weight loss remedy. It contains
the herbs ma huang (also known as ephedrine), guarana (a caffeine source), willow bark extract,
ginger root, citrus aurantium, and several supplements. The manufacturer of Xenadrine® RFA-1
claims the product increases the body's ability to burn fat. But there's no medical research to
support claims that Xenadrine® RFA-1 is effective for weight loss or reducing body fat.
Side effects of Xenadrine® include tremor, headache, trouble sleeping, nausea, vomiting,
fatigue, and dizziness. Two of its ingredients, ma huang and guarana, have been associated with
serious side effects including heart problems, irregular heartbeats, stroke, seizures, and
death. Side effects may be more likely with higher doses or prolonged use. You shouldn't take
more than six capsules per day or use this product for longer than 12 weeks. Xenadrine® isn't
recommended for people under 18 years old. Xenadrine® RFA-1 should only be used under a
doctor's supervision. People with heart disease, diabetes, epilepsy, glaucoma, or thyroid
conditions should avoid this product since it may make these health problems worse. Xenadrine®
is now available in ephedrine-free versions due to the life-threatening risks reported with the
use of ephedrine. Check with your doctor before using these products.
