Is nicotine available in a lozenge?

Answer

Yes, there are a number of products are available to help with quitting the use of tobacco, including nicotine lozenges. Depending on the smoking cessation product, they are either available over-the-counter or require a prescription. Currently, five types of nicotine-based smoking cessation products have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including a transdermal patch (nicotine patch) that adheres to your skin, an oral inhaler, a nasal spray, a chewing gum and a nicotine lozenge. The transdermal patch, the chewing gum, and the lozenge are available over-the-counter. The oral inhaler and nasal spray require a prescription from a physician.

The nicotine lozenge is available to help reduce the withdrawal symptoms, including nicotine craving, that are associated with quitting smoking or other forms of tobacco. It is important that you follow the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines for use.
