Season's Eatings: Food Safety

Chances are potlucks and home-cooked meals will be the focus of your approaching holiday celebrations.
While food can bring people together, it also has the potential to cause
food poisoning if bacteria such as salmonella are introduced during food preparation or handling.

Here are some basic pointers to prevent food poisoning and ensure a safe season's eatings:

  • Keep your hands, dishes and utensils clean.
  • Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold-chafing dishes and iced serving platters can help.
  • Do not eat foods or drink beverages that may contain raw eggs, such as egg nog, Caesar salad dressing or cookie dough.
  • Keep your refrigerator set to 40 degrees Fahrenheit and your freezer at or below 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
