DailyMed® Service
What is DailyMed®?
DailyMed®sorts and organizes your
monthly prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and even vitamins into convenient,
pre-sorted packets - making it easier than ever to take the right medication at the right time
of day. DailyMed® will even synchronize
your non-oral solid chronic medications to match the start date of your DailyMed® packets reducing unnecessary trips to the
pharmacy.
Why use DailyMed®?
The DailyMed® system:
- makes it easier for patients to take their medications correctly
- helps patients better manage their health conditions and care for themselves
- assists in reducing patients' overall drug costs, and their overall health care costs
- gives patients and caregivers a safe, time-saving way to administer medications
- allows our representatives to review a patient's entire drug profile, and ensure that combinations of prescription, over-the-counter medications, and vitamins are safe and effective.
How will I know when to take my medication?
DailyMed® dosage packets are
pre-arranged to dispense from the box in the order in which they should be taken. Each
medication is assigned an "event time" or specific time category. Some examples are Breakfast,
Morning, Lunch, Dinner or Bedtime. We will work with you to determine the most clinically
appropriate and/or convenient time when you would like to take your medications. If there are
several medications that you take at the same time, they will be packaged in the same packet.
The time category will be printed on the packet, and will let you know when to take your
medications. Some patients will only have one time category each day, while other patients will
have several time categories. This depends on the number of medications and the time of day
they are taken. Also, each DailyMed®
packet has the name and a physical description of the medication contained within the
system.
How will I receive my DailyMed®?
An entire 30-day supply is delivered directly to your home.
How long does DailyMed®
last?
Each DailyMed® strip will contain your
medications conveniently packaged for a 30-day time period. No more than 30 days can be
packaged in DailyMed® due to required
expiration dating of the DailyMed®
packets. Even if your insurance will pay for more than 30 days at a time, DailyMed® cannot exceed this time duration.
What do I when I run out of medication? / How do I reorder?
Your DailyMed® representative will call
you approximately 10 days prior to the start date of your next DailyMed® dispensing box. At that time, you and
DailyMed® will discuss any changes that
may have occurred since your last fill date.
Can I return my DailyMed®
dispensing box if something changes or I decide that I don't want to continue using
it?
No. The DailyMed® dispensing box is
like any other prescription in that once it leaves the pharmacy, by Board of Pharmacy Rules and
Regulations, it cannot be returned.
I'm only in town 6 months out of the year. How will I get my meds for the whole
year?
Your prescriptions would still be packaged monthly into DailyMed® system, and we would simply
mail your DailyMed® dispensing box to
you on a monthly basis to your secondary address.
Where do I store my DailyMed®?
DailyMed® should be stored away from
humid areas (such as the bathroom) as with any other medications. The DailyMed® is not childproof and needs to be kept out
of the reach of children if they are present. We do recommend the DailyMed® dispensing box be kept in a place that you
are going to see it and remember to take your medications at the scheduled times.
DailyMed® Medications
How many prescriptions can DailyMed® accommodate?
DailyMed® is able to handle as many
chronic medications as you take on a monthly basis.
What types of medications CAN be packaged into DailyMed®?
Prescription medications (including solid tablets and capsules), over-the-counter medications,
daily vitamins, as well as supplements your doctor has ordered can be packaged in DailyMed®. In addition, DailyMed® will synchronize your other chronic
non-oral solid medications to start at the same time as your DailyMed® box and ship them all together.
Can "half tabs" be packaged in the DailyMed® system?
Absolutely.
What types of medications CANNOT be packaged in DailyMed®?
Chewable tablets or tablets that dissolve easily, certain antibiotics, PRN or "as needed"
medications, liquids/injectable medications, chemotherapy medications and medications that have
frequently changed dosages cannot be packaged in DailyMed®. A DailyMed® representative will consult with you
and/or with your physician to determine the best medication arrangement specific for your
health care needs.
How do you handle prescriptions that are liquid or injections that come in single-dose
packages already?
As you might expect, liquids and injectable medications are not appropriate to be included with
other medications in the DailyMed®
dispensing box. However, we will synchronize these medications to the same start date as your
DailyMed® dispensing box and ship all
medications together. Our representatives can review your entire medication profile against
those medications packaged in DailyMed®. In some cases, medications "pre-packaged"
by the drug manufacturer in single-dose packages will be removed from the manufacturer's system
and added to your DailyMed® packets.
Medications such as PremPro or birth control will be dispensed in original manufacturer
packaging.
All my meds are on different refill schedules - how can this get resolved?
A DailyMed® representative will work
with you and your insurance company to get all your meds on the same schedule, and subsequently
filled on the same date - another great benefit of DailyMed®! We call it "medication
synchronization".
What happens when I have a medication change?
DailyMed® is able to accommodate
medication changes including the addition and/or removal of medication(s). Your DailyMed® representative will work with you and your
doctor to determine the best course of action.
What happens if I have a medication emergency and need a prescription
immediately?
In this situation, your prescription would be filled at any local Walgreens pharmacy and put
into a traditional prescription vial.
After transferring my prescriptions to DailyMed®, I can't manage them anymore on
Walgreens.com. Where'd they go?
In order to preserve the precision of the DailyMed®system, your prescriptions have been
removed from your account on Walgreens.com. However, we are creating a solution for this
situation.
Will I receive safety information and instructions?
Yes. With DailyMed® you will receive
complete information on precautions, drug interactions and side effects with each
medication.
DailyMed® Pricing & Insurance
Will my prescriptions cost more?
No. DailyMed® prescriptions are priced
competitively and your prescription co-pays will be exactly the same what you pay at your local
Walgreens location. Feel free to call for a price quote.
Will my insurance cover DailyMed®?
DailyMed® accepts most prescription
insurance plans, as well as the Medicare Part D program. We will work closely with you and your
insurance company to ensure paperwork is in order for DailyMed® to bill the appropriate drug plan.
Additionally, some insurance plans and/or health care spending accounts may cover the monthly
cost. DailyMed® will assist customers
in contacting their respective health plans.
I currently get my medications from the VA or a Mail Order facility for free or at a
discounted rate. Can these then be packaged for me into DailyMed®?
No. This would be against both federal and state laws. DailyMed® CANNOT repackage other pharmacy's
medications or any OTC medications that you may have at home.
Will I be refunded or receive credit for a medication change?
It is illegal and against pharmacy regulations for the pharmacy to refund or exchange
medications. If there is a medication change, please notify DailyMed® and we will make adjustments to
accommodate your needs.
DailyMed® and Your Doctor
Can DailyMed® work with my
doctor?
Yes. We find that most doctors are very encouraging and supportive of the DailyMed® service. We are happy to send your doctor
information on DailyMed® upon
request.
I hate to bother my doctor; can you call him/her?
Yes. Getting the prescription orders is safest and most accurate when we receive them directly
from the physician(s). It is our goal to work with your doctor to maximize a healthier outcome
for you. We find that most doctors are very encouraging and supportive of the DailyMed® system.
Will DailyMed® work with my
doctor to get certain medications changed so they can be packaged along with my other
meds?
Yes. We will work with your doctors to make any changes needed in order to find a product
acceptable for DailyMed®. For example,
if you are taking a chewable tablet, there are likely other options for this medication that
come in a solid tablet or capsule. We will discuss these recommended changes with you and your
doctor.
Should I ask my doctor before I do this?
You certainly can. Most physicians recognize the importance of medication compliance. We will
send your doctor some educational information on DailyMed® upon request.
