What is Red Nose Day?
Red Nose Day is an annual fundraising campaign to end the cycle of child poverty and ensure a healthy future for all children. Through the power of entertainment, Red Nose Day raises money and awareness to ensure all children are safe, healthy, educated and empowered, in the U.S. and around the world.
In the last 8 years, Walgreens has raised more than $177 Million for Red Nose Day, which has contributed to programs that have positively impacted over 31 million children and their families.
How did Red Nose Day begin?
Comic Relief US, the nonprofit behind Red Nose Day, was founded by Richard Curtis (award-winning writer and director of films like Love Actually and Four Weddings and a Funeral) as a way to harness the power of entertainment to drive positive change. The first Red Nose Day took place in the UK in 1988, and since then it has raised over $1 billion globally. Red Nose Day came to the U.S. in 2015 and has since raised $324 million, positively impacting nearly 30 million children. Money raised helps support programs that are building a healthy future for all children, in the U.S. and internationally.
Where can I buy a Red Nose for Red Nose Day?
Purchase your Red Nose in store exclusively at a Walgreens or Duane Reade near you between April 10–May 31 as available.
How many Red Noses can I buy at a time?
You can buy as many as you want! If you would like to buy in bulk, we recommend ordering online (To buy 360 noses, use WIC 600454. To buy a box of 60 noses, use WIC 975210). Stores are unable to sell multiple boxes of Red Noses.
How does my purchase of a Red Nose help to end child poverty?
Every Red Nose sold helps raise life-changing funds to build a more equitable, healthier life for children. All profits of each Red Nose sold are donated to the Red Nose Day Fund. More than that, wearing a Red Nose is an amazing way to spread the message and get more people involved.
Can I donate cash? How much of my donation is given to the Red Nose Day Fund?
You can donate cash in store or donate cash online at RedNoseDay.org/walgreens 100% of cash donations go directly to the Red Nose Day Fund. Thanks for your support in keeping kids safe and healthy.
How does the Red Nose Day Fund work?
The Red Nose Day Fund provides grants to organizations for programs in America and around the world that help break the cycle of child poverty and ensure children are healthy, safe, educated, and empowered. Half of the money raised supports programs in the United States and Puerto Rico, and the other half supports international programs in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Red Nose Day’s 2023 Grantee Partners include: Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Children’s Health Fund, City Year, Covenant House, Feeding America, Grantmakers for Girls of Color, Helen Keller International, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, Laureus Sport for Good, Nutrition International, Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico, The Global Fund, UnidosUS, Ali Forney Center, American Indian College Fund, Boris L Hensen Foundation, Glasswing International, Save the Children, International Rescue Committee, We-Care Foundation and more.
How does Red Nose Day impact children in my community?
Nonprofit organizations that receive funding from Red Nose Day reach communities across America. As more money is raised, the reach across partners expands for an even greater impact. For many of us, these impacts can be seen today within our own communities.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Comic Relief US—also known as Comic Relief Inc.—is the nonprofit behind Red Nose Day. It is a 501(c)(3) organization with Federal Tax ID 01-0885377. Your donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Why do the Red Noses ring up with sales tax?
Walgreens is not a tax-exempt organization. These sales are taxable as Walgreens is purchasing the Red Noses, adding them to our inventory for resale and selling them through our cash registers, which makes them part of our sales and taxable. Walgreens is donating all profits from every sale to the Red Nose Day Fund, which is tax exempt, but that has no bearing on the original sales made at the cash register.
