If you’re under age 65, you may be eligible for Medicare if you’ve received Social Security/Railroad Retirement Board disability benefits for 24+ months or have been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Changes in employment coverage? If you’re 65+, enroll in a plan up to eight months after your employer coverage ends to avoid a penalty.

2. Research and shop for a Medicare plan

Research Medicare to figure out what coverage type is right for you:

Plan benefits can change annually, so it is important to evaluate prescription drug coverage, premiums, deductibles, copays, and pharmacy benefits to ensure your plan is right for you every year.
