L-theanine is an amino acid found primarily in green tea. Nature Made Sleep uses L-theanine to help relax your mind without the caffeine found in tea. A typical cup of green tea may contain 10-30 mg of L-theanine and up to 30 mg of caffeine.

L-theanine is associated with the production of alpha waves in your brain. Alpha waves are brain waves created when you are in a state of deep relaxation. Nature Made Sleep includes 200 mg of L-theanine, the amount clinically shown to help you relax your mind.

L-theanine increases the activity of a neurotransmitter, gamma amino butyric acid (GABA). This stimulates the release of dopamine and serotonin, which can work to promote relaxation and calmness.
