Urinary Tract Infections

Chat with Pharmacy Staff

Question

Are there any over-the-counter treatments for a UTI?

Answer

Typical urinary tract infections, or UTIs, are caused by bacterial infections and are treated and cured with antibiotics. UTIs can be caused by fungal infections which are cured by anti-fungal drugs. Over-the-counter urinary analgesics like Azo-Standard«) are taken in tablet form and are used to treat symptoms like burning, pain, urgency and frequency of urination caused by UTIs. Over-the-counter treatments will not completely get rid of the infection causing the disease, so you should visit your physician for proper diagnosis and treatment. If you do not treat the cause of the irritation but just mask the symptoms with one of these products, the condition could worsen.
