Are there any over the counter products that will remove a tattoo?
Unfortunately, there are no products approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that
can safely remove tattoos. There is no evidence that tattoo removal creams are effective. In
addition, the FDA recommends against ordering online do-it-yourself tattoo removal kits. These
acid-based products are not FDA-approved; they can cause serious skin reactions.
Depending on its size and location, you may want to look for a heavily pigmented cosmetic concealer to camouflage your tattoo.
Tattoo removal is best accomplished with laser treatment, although even this method may not completely remove the tattoo. It is recommended that you talk to a dermatologist about whether laser surgery is right for you.
Anyone contemplating getting tattooed should keep in mind that not only is tattooing considered a permanent procedure, it can put a person at an increased risk for contracting hepatitis from the use of dirty needles.
