How does pulmozyme work?
Pulmozyme® (dornase alfa) inhalation solution is a medicine that helps manage cystic fibrosis symptoms. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease which involves a defective gene that causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus. This mucus builds up in the lungs and digestive tract which can result in severe lung damage, nutritional deficiencies, and early death. Pulmozyme® is a man-made form of a naturally occurring substance called DNase. It improves lung function in patients with cystic fibrosis by breaking down the thick mucus in the airways. This allows air to better flow through the airways and also prevents bacteria from building up which can lead to infections.
