Smoking and Nicotine Patches

Chat with Pharmacy Staff

Question

Can I taper off smoking while I am using the nicotine patch?

Answer

No. You should not smoke or use other kinds of tobacco - such as chewing tobacco or cigars - while you are using a nicotine product. The combination can increase nicotine-related side effects such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and increased heart rate because of the combined higher concentration of nicotine in blood.
