No matter which type of folding wheelchair you choose, look for a model that turns smoothly and maneuvers safely across uneven terrain. It should be sturdy to operate, but also lightweight enough to fold and transport. The seat should be cushioned and level. If you need the wheelchair for use in a small bathroom, or to navigate through narrow doorways, make note of the wheelchair width before purchasing. For added comfort, a padded headrest and backrest may be preferred. For arm support, a folding wheelchair may include adjustable armrests. These armrests may also be detachable. For easy entry, you may prefer a swing-away footrest. Look for safety features such as anti-tipping devices, automatic brakes, a seat belt, and wheel locks.
