Walgreens Supplier Diversity: Clear Policy, Firm Commitment

Supplier diversity is much more than a policy at Walgreens. It is an integrated business practice. We proactively procure relevant products and services from diverse owned and small businesses that mirror the diversity of the communities in which we operate.

Moreover, Walgreens commitment to supplier diversity fosters equal access to opportunity, reflecting our foundational principles of fairness, respect and equality. To meet that commitment, we:

  • Measure current diversity spend by looking at our overall spending and the availability of goods and services from diverse owned and small businesses.

  • Maintain a policy to utilize a minimum of 8 percent certified minority business enterprises and 2 percent other certified diversity enterprises.

  • Encourage all team members and business leaders with purchasing authority and decision influence to consider diverse and small businesses in contract opportunities.

  • Encourage our prime (Tier 1) suppliers to establish supplier diversity programs and increase their utilization of diverse suppliers in their respective supply chains. This provides additional opportunities for growth and economic development.

Walgreens conducts supplier outreach in collaboration with the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) and other affiliate organizations that support, advocate for and/or help certify diverse and small business suppliers.
