Many smoking cessation products are available over the counter. Even though you can buy them without a prescription, talk to your provider or pharmacist before starting any of them as they can interact with other medications you take.

  • Gum

    Each piece of gum should last about 30 minutes, and you can chew up to 20 pieces per day. Nicotine gum is good for people who like to keep their mouth busy.

  • Lozenges

    Similar to nicotine gum, the lozenge also comes in 2mg and 4mg strengths. This is a good choice for people who may avoid gum due to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems.

  • Patch

    The nice thing about the patch is that you can put it on and forget about it. If you wear the patch continuously, including overnight, you'll have fewer withdrawal symptoms.
