OTC Benefit Cards

  • An OTC benefit card is funded by select health plans and primarily awarded to plan members participating in an associated Medicare Advantage (Part D) program.

A physical OTC benefit card is provided annually to eligible members, along with a predetermined amount put onto the card that is only to be used for eligible OTC items.

Depending on the health plan, funds are loaded or reloaded to the card on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. OTC funds not used during the allotment period are lost and do not roll over to the next period, unless the health plan specifically allows for a roll-over period.

This program enables Walgreens customers to purchase OTC card eligible items using their OTC benefit card. OTC card eligible items often include health and wellness products, such as cough and cold remedies, vitamins, medical equipment and more.

If an item is eligible, the cost of the item is subtracted from an OTC card's available balance at checkout.

  • Your OTC benefit card can be used online and in-store. You may use it online during checkout and save it as a payment method to your Walgreens.com account.

  • You may check the balance on your OTC benefit card by calling the number on the back of your card or signing into your OTC plan provider's online member portal.

  • In stores, common eligible items will have an OTC indicator marked on the price tag.

Online, common eligible items can be located by selecting your insurer or other on the OTC landing page or using the filters under OTC Benefit Plan on the product listing page.

To confirm item eligibility, you can visit your OTC plan provider's online member portal or call your OTC plan provider at the number listed on the back of your card.

  • Yes. OTC benefit cards can be used when redeeming other valid discounts, coupons, or promotions, including myWalgreens Cash rewards for myWalgreens members.

  • Shipping and delivery fees may be covered, depending on your OTC benefit plan.

To confirm item eligibility, you can visit your OTC plan provider's online member portal or call your OTC plan provider at the number listed on the back of your card.

  • Any items purchased through an OTC benefit plan are subject to Walgreens Return Policy

If an item is eligible for a return, we will attempt to return the OTC funds used for the initial purchase to your OTC card balance. If the funds cannot be returned to your OTC benefit card (due to your plan's balance limit, timing, or other restrictions), we will issue your refund in the form of a Walgreens gift card.
